Need help with Moody tail band colors.
Most specifically the 69th and 70th TFS/FS's
We have photos of both the 69th and 70th TFS/FS with F-16s in a silver tail bands (maybe we are wrong in this).
Here is my guess:
69th TFS was silver, then gave it up for a black tail band with white text.
70th TFS was black and white (checkerboard) and took silver when it was available after the 69th gave it up?
Thank you |

69TFS was definatelly silver, sometimes with black outline - Seen as such during Dessert Storm in 1991
70TFS was definatelly white/black checkers - Seen as such during early 90's
At wich time the possibly changed I don`t know, but it has to do with the arrival of amongst others the 308TFS after Homestead closed in 1992 |

| 69TH FS was a Silver band outlined with black and "Werewolves" on the silver band, the letters were in black, This was till they disbanded. The 70th FS were the black and white checkerboard until they converted to the A-10 and then was disbanded with the transfer of the A-10's, The 68th FS had a red band with "Lightning Lancers" on the tail, there was a lightning bolt between lightning and lancers. The letters were in yellow.I was assigned there from June 1991 til Sept 2000 and served in the 69th, 68th, and 347 OSS and was in charge of the boresight team. |

Looks like the 69th TFS/FS was silver and then later it was black:
Silver:
USAF F-16C block 40 #88-0468 part of the 69th TFS is equipped with an AIM-9 missile on the wingtip while parked on the tarmac at Moody AB on November 1st, 1991.
Black:
USAF F-16C block 40 #89-2013 of the 69th FS being prepared for a training sortie. |

| I have a pic of all the flag ships out over Bemiss Lake north of 36L/R as a 4-ship when the then 347th TFW was flying the Block 15's. I will dig it out and post it. The birds included the 347th CO's, 68th TFS CO's, 69th TFS CO's, and 70th FS CO's. Back then the 69th TFS was known as 'The Dragons' |

| Well its good to be in company of falcon fixers. which some zipper suits decided to call a Viper. Anyways I am an Ol' Phantom Phixer. Jan 86- Jul 91. I was in the 69th TFS for many years. We had the grey band. We had the Drangon mascot til a driver researched and we had the Steven Kings' "IT" clown on the side of our a/c for when we deployed to Desert Shield/Storm. The 70th was checkerboard white and blue. The 68th was a red band. I have been in the AF Reserves for 15 years. Stopped through Ol' Moody to see what she looks like. Alot of change. Working on C-5's at WPAFB. GO BUCKS!!!!!!!!!! |

Listening to the J-79's rumble to life was just a the tear in the eye.The way the drain pipes have lwft scars on my back Hmm probably was a voodoo.hehehe. |
