This is a question thats been bugging me for a while....
What is the issue with carrying multiple Mk 82 bombs on the middle underwing hardpoint? Photos show 12 Mk 82 being carried on inner and middle underwing HP.
As I understand it with drop tanks on in the inner hardpoints, they can only carry 4 or 6 bombs? Or is it only 4 with the Snakeye retarder fitted? |

Multiple carried Mk. 80-series bombs on Multiple Ejector Racks are not carried - and have rarely been carried in the past due to drag. Most "real" missions have the wing tanks attached.
TER - Triple Ejector Racks/TER-9 and BRU-42s - are often carried also with Mk. 82s. Four or six are carried depending on the mission. Snake Eyes/Mk. 82AIRs can also be carried three a piece on a TER/BRU-42.
Laser guided GBU-12s are carried two a piece on a TER/BRU-42 in a "slant two" configuration as the folding fins on this type of bomb would penetrate the wing tank, if a third bomb is carried on the inner TER station.
Greetings,
Henrik. |

The BRU 42 according to http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/equip/ter.htm said it has enhanced electronics. I have never seen this version at any of the locations I have been from Block 15-52.
We used a TER with the same outward appearances as the BRU 42 but the insides were the same as the old TER 9.
Sometimes for airshow static display we would load a pylon and TER on stations 4 & 6 just for the gee whiz effect.
But Henrik is correct that you will never see that for operational use. |

| Stations 3 and 7 can easily fit 3 Mk. 82 apiece with wing tanks attached. Saw it all the time during DS. Also, it is not true that stations 4 and 6 never carry bombs. Again, during DS, many a mission was flown with 4, yes 4 Mk. 84s (2000 lb bombs). Look it up. Plenty of pictures with such a loadout available. |
