From one of our local TV stations:
Quote:
Terre Haute Welcomes the 181st Intelligence Wing
It's a new day and a new way for the 181st Fighter Wing at Terre Haute's Hulman Field.
Monday, the 181st began to gradually change and transition into the 181st Intelligence Wing. The most noticable and recognizable change is just how quiet it is at the base.
The reason?
Less than a month ago, the base said goodbye to their F-16s and their mission focusing around aircraft. That's because 2-years ago, the government decided to do away with the planes there.
Now, the base is saying hello to 2-brand new high tech intelligence missions.
Right now, many of the base members are preparing for training with the new missions. Training that'll take several months to complete.
Also, renovations to existing buildings on the base are being done. The 181st Fighter Wing will officially become the 181st Intelligence Wing April 1st.
The 181st has been an important part of Terre Haute for more than 50 years.

Agreed.
I remember installing their first UTD there back in '96. It's prolly been scrapped by now... |

| So when a wing changes its mission, how do the personnel deal with it? Do they all transition into the new wings mission? Or do they move to a new base to follow their planes? |

| Some of us are transitioning to the new mission, some of us are transfering to other units and some people are flat getting out. |

Racer--
Been there, done that in VA. I wish y'all the best, bud. Hope they don't rape your unit like they did ours. |
