We are doing that at the AZ ANG. It's insane! Now I know that you're thinking "guard base? big deal! only a few jets there." but we have almost 60 phases for FY 08. Do the math. |

The SCANG has the same operation, plus we have more jets now. I was at your base a few years ago when I was with the 93FS for the Targeting Pods training. Nice place had a great time and met some realy great people there! |

| This will continue to happen and before you know it...bam another dock will open. Otherwise scheduling will have plenty of jets that can sit in WLT for a week.....or two !!!!!! |

| Us Phase guys have to ensure that we are doing the work right, not just rushing the phase to make a timeline. We catch alot of flak abour how long our Phases take, 3-4 weeks. But we make sure we fix alot of stuff on the aircraft before it rolls out. If we slap a bunch of crummy panels back on, do a quick gear look over and ops check, etc, to meet the deadline, we'll get ourselves screwed in the long run. Here in SCANG, we have one phase dock/one shift, with 4 guys, plus crew chief. Been working 2 jets for a while now. Just my two cents worth. |

| I agree smines80 phase dock does catch grief when those items your not counting on come along. All of you do a tremendous job at keeping them flying, my hat is off to all of you. |

My experience is that ANG maintenance is better than USAF maintenance strictly because we do phases in 3-4 weeks instead of 3-4 days like we did in the regulars when I was in the USAF. ANG maintainers also tend to be older and more experienced than their USAF counterparts, which helps greatly. During ONW, OIF, and OEF, we could (and did) do phases in two days, but those were bare-bones "combat" phases that went strictly by the barest book minimuns. My ANG unit was notorious for fixing every single writeup it could while a jet was in phase. The result was a pretty good jet. We also did a MBFI test every single phase and as a result never had a mux bus-related writeup after we started.
ANG units have the advantage of low personnel turnover, and greater input from maintenance on what ops can or cannot do with the available jets. USAF units don't have that latitude. Many times our MXG has told Ops that they can only have 14 jets when they're screaming that then MUST have 16 for the afternoon go. Many times has the MXG also busted its collective a$$ to get Ops their 16 jets and delivered--only to have Ops cancel several sorties for lack of pilots. Go figure... |

Us phase guys at aviano have one dock for two squadrons as well, and we just got done with 2 aef cycles so we did it with half as many people |

| 3-4 week phase in the AD, not giving OPs what they want, a perfect way to get promoted to head port a potty inspector. |
