Hi,
On recent pilot pictures, I noticed that the PCU harness frost fittings were replaced by new fittings... Can someone tell me more about this mods? Did the male fittings (found on the seat) change as well? When were these fittings replaced, and why?
Thanks,
Laurent |

The new fittings are Koch fittings (as are the Frost...). I have a set of prototypes of them, and my friend Chris has a set of the production units. They work with the UWARS (replacing the SEWARS) and require new risers. The risers are slightly shorter to accommodate the extra length of the UWARS.
The following photos are of Chris Woodul's F-16 ACES II. The seat has just finished his latest upgrade and is complete with the newest Koch fittings. He has hung the PCU-15/P portions off the males on the risers for the photo.
I have one more photo available but since the photos here are limited to 500 pixels wide, I put it on my server. click here to see the other view.

Hi Kevin,
Thanks for your reply.
Do you know where could I get such a pair of production UWARS fittings for my Pcu-15/p harness?

Laurent

chameloon, My friend got them via his connections in the industry. He has a small museum in Texas for cockpits and flight equipment. I don't know of anywhere you will be able to get them. I got the Koch fittings from a contact in trade for use of some of my images in a presentation.

Hi!
I'm found this site by accident and am jumping in here a bit late...but I'm a retired life support NCO and was LS NCOIC of the 389th FS at Mountain Home from May 99 to Jan 02. I was there when the AF began converting to the new Koch releases. They are designed specifically to be easier to operate when under load i.e. in the event a pilot is being dragged through the water or across the ground post-ejection. The Frost release, though popular among pilots for being convenient, was a piece of junk where it counts.
The new Kochs are controlled items until the AF completes the conversion.
If you want some for your collection your best bet is to make nice with your local ANG viper unit LS NCOIC and see if he or she will pony up unserviceable ones.
Cheers |

Tyger,
You have gen-1 Koch's on your harness, so you're set up for Eagles and Hawgs and your visor is not authorized on a 55/P helmet unless your helmet has a single visor housing mounted which is authorized. See that circular cutout at 12 o'clock? Thats where the locking knob attaches. And why do you have a breakaway bayonet receiver and a 12/P mask. That receiver is for COMBAT EDGE i.e. the 20/P mask.
What is Starfighter's Life Support Gear?? Do you belong to a sq nicknamed the Starfighters? Are you a 1T1? |

Arctus,
Starfighters aka "The Fastest Show On Earth" is a Civilian Airshow Team, based here in St. Petersburg, FL. We fly the Lockheed F-104 Starfighter.
Check us out here: http://www.starfighters.net
As we're a civilian team I do follow the T.O.'s for safety, maintanence & inspection. However whatever looks the coolest here, usually goes!
We all have Kevlar HGU-55's (Non CE Bladder) & the MBU-20/P HA/LP (Non CE Hose) as our aircraft is not set up for PBG. Our HGU-55's are currently grey & will soon go out to paint for an awesome design & colour on them. I've also removed those hinged bayo recievers on all but my Combat Edge Set up, (which although is brand new is my display helmet.) as the hinge is more annoying than it is useful. Had a couple pop off before ON BRAND NEW HELMETS! So I went back to the standard lightweight ones which I had chromed for everyone that look wayyy cooler!
Visors:.. I have an HGU-33 which I actually really like, I know the HGU-55's have the bungees, but the company that coats the visors sent me someone elses order & they got mine. I put the 12/P mask on, as the Visors are cut for the MBU-12/P, instead of the 20/P cut that we WILL get! I just didn't want to take apart the visor housing on my HGU-33/P just to display a visor.
I'll shoot you some pics of our new Integrated Life Preserver/Survival Vest which I like ALOT more than the SRU-21. Our CSU-13B/P's are all going to be upgraded to the 2006 new & improved CSU-15A/P which has a newer dull nomex not that shiny crap the Navy was flying with for a while. Which also come with the Clear Map Straps not the green or black ones, we also have a MUCH NEWER & improved shroud cutter than that ancient orange POS.
My PCU-15/P is one of two I have, the one pictured is a display one, I do have a brand new PCU-15/P with an LPU-33 on it to fly the L-159 as it has the same ACES II seat thats in the Eagle. Though in the F-104 we fly with the BA-22 Chute.
Later dude!
Out. |

I've read that the newer UWARS fittings, when damaged or broken, had to be returned to the factory for replacement. Is that true ?
Arctus, unfortunately, where I live, there are no ANG viper unit. So, is there a chance that these UWARS fittings (I still and only need the female parts found on the harness) hit one day the collector's market, as it is the case for the older Frost fittings ?
Thanks,
Chameloon |

Arctus,
Thanks for reply. Well, I never ever saw some UWARS on Ebay (Frost fittings appear there from time to time, however).
I don't think Belgium and Netherlands use the UWARS (yet?). Seems they still use Frost fittings.

F16Viper,
Thanks for your reply. What I need are the fittings found on the harness :
Not the parts found on seat's straps.
Thanks a lot for help anyway,
Cham' |
