If they were CCIP'd, the markings may have been removed at depot during the mod. If not, the paint guys at Cannon may have cleaned the tails off prior to departure.

They are in the process of being transferred from the deactivating 524th FS of the 27th FW at Cannon AFB, NM and markings have been removed pending new markings - in this case the 36th FS / 51st FW at Osan AB, South Korea.

Greetings,

Henrik.

Have any of the 524th Block 40s gone through CCIP yet? It might be an interesting training session in Aviano if we get a couple of Cannon birds with the CCIP mod already...

No not yet. The Osan based 36th FS / 51st FW will receive these ex-Cannon Vipers and in turn transfer their current Block-40s to the 80th FS at nearby Kunsan AB and the 80th FS / 8th FW. The 36th FS will also receive many of the Block-40s from the 18th FS / 354th FW at Eielson AFB, AK.

Those block-40s currently in the 18th have undergone the CCIP.

Greetings,

Henrik.

Looks like an AUTO XFER to SEC, or maybe a nozzle malfunction.

These aircraft are going from Cannon to Osan. They are being stationed ther I do believe. Both a/c used to be in the 524th Hounds of Heaven. I should know as I was inthe Hounds in 2004. I worked both of those jets on a regular basis. It's nice to be a CC.

Landry, still haven't put that Captain down have ya???

Raker2, I know that 042 had a motor in it for a while that would slightly close everytime the jet shut down, so that was the normal look for that jet.

As of Tuesday (September 11), no news update about the unmarked strangers at Fukuoka AP.

BTW, the news video of the parked Vipers, taken from a circling helo, reminds me of when I was playing F-19 by MicroProse, and one mission type was photo-recon: fly to an enemy AB, and take a pic of an enemy AWACS or transport plane parked there.

The image in the F-19 MFD (in colour, not B&W or green-and-white, IIRC) revolved as the F-19 egressed to the next waypoint, and usually became a glowing bonfire, because I usually pickled a PGM after taking the pic. The good old days, of virtually terrorising the Iranian and Libyan deserts.

042 has the nozzle closed - might be stuck in SEC. GE nozzle should be open on shutdown.

Conner, I put that down a long time ago. I stick with Kameson now. Not too much anymore though. Yeah, I remember 042 doing that. Who's jet was that again? I can't remember.

Local photographers who usually spot civilian planes and trains were excited by this unexpected encounter with jet fighters.

http://blogs.yahoo.co.jp/kawaji329/50903143.html
claims 89-2042 was the Viper with engine trouble.

http://blogs.yahoo.co.jp/hc130hp/25046322.html
claims (rumour) mechanics would come from South Korea, not Misawa AB.

http://blogs.yahoo.co.jp/yasu_ys_11/25080162.html
claims the Vipers departed Fukuoka AP at 17:13, on 11 September 2007.

Only one jet had engine trouble (at least not trouble to me) and the other had a issue with the rudder pedals or something, the E&E guys went out there the next day. 2042 had a issue that has happened before with some of our other jets that seems to happen mysteriously around the Sept through the Dec time frame. The issue is that there is a small servo cartridge in you engine hydrualic pump. It is located in the servo where your cannon plug connects. It is about 1/2 the size of a AAA battery. Very small filter. What happens is that it gets clogged, and causes a servo fail. Therfore, resulting in a AB inhibit (which pilots swear up and down it is a AB blow out) and it closes the nozzle. Any one that has been to run class on GE's knows that if you go into aug and you don't get ignition back there, the nozzle closes back up and kicks an aug fault. But the engine is NOT,I REPEAT NOT, in SEC mode nor does this result in and auto transfer to SEC. It kicks out a AUG INHIBIT fault and a HYD SERVO LOOP WRAPS fault. What sucks for us it that the pilot says that, and we have to run to production to prove that it is not an auto trans. Since an auto trans results in impoundedment. But it is usually too late. And of course, the pilot screaming that it is a AB blowout makes us do a aug run for no reason. I am not taking it to the pad when when know it was never an aug issue. Once you change the cartridge, it cranks up and opens with no problem.

If that filter gets clogged and your delta P is popped on the hydraulic pump, the most likely the pump shelled. So if it ever happens to you (mainly GE-100s) then i would pull the filter bowl, inspect the magnet inside the bowl, and if it looks like some stuff off the movie arrmaggedon (the ice crystal on the meteor) then get ready to pull the pump and do a drain and flush cause the chip will come back LVL 3 M50.

When that initially started happening with us, we could not get those cartidges ordered so we had to pull the pump every time. Eventually had to explain to the Wolf why where are pulling a $30,000 pump instead of changing a $35 cartridge. But we got them on base now.

They change the cartridge out and worked like a champ, how ever, they did not get a chance to enjoy the area thought. Very Happy

I will save the complaining bout the pilots calling false AB blowouts for another time. Laughing Causing that extra work. And what makes it funny, they were only 30 minutes (fly time) away. he could have made it. lol

Both of those aircraft are a new installments to the 35th. We have 2062, and a 2060. Now we got 2042 and ......."hey, where 2040??" LOL
