Our son needs to interview someone this week on a subject of his choosing; he chose F-22s.
If you would be willing to answer an on-line question or two about the Raptor, would you please respond?
Thanks,

| I'm sure anyone on this form who has the information would be willing to share it as long as it does not violate OPSEC. |

Well, I think its great to hear there is another version of myself out there... my 7th grade science project ws on missiles and I built up some scaled down static replicsa...
But you're not going to get much info here other than what you get off of other websites. Everything about the beast is classified... everything thats interesting about it at least.
Checkout Youtube.com for the story of the YF-23 as its a very good "movie". I think its in 5 parts.... Its goes on about the origins of the ATF program to an extent. Then you can check out some NASA sites which have public papers on programs from the 1970's on supercruising airplanes... Very informative and very technical... but directly related to the ATF program. Also you want to do a brief introduction on the F-117 which in turn lead to the ATF (F-22 and F-23).... Of course there is youtube stuff on the Raptor as well.
Also, don't buy into the mach 1.7 cruise number... I'd be willing to wager all that I posses that its actually above 2.0.
We need to get the youth involved in our country and in our defense... You'll find a lot of support here even though we fight among ourselves, its out love for our country and our home.
I drive past a static F-4 Phantom II every week to and from campus... One night I litterally cried a little seeing her, paint fading, just sitting there for the birds to land on her.... God, I loved it. I'd gladly take it over anything else if there were ever a WWIII and I got called to fly which would basically mean we were scrapping the bottom of the barrel for pilots... and going though the mothball fleet for things with wings... Uncomfotable seat, poor visibility, horibble cockpit layout, but it was a flying tank that could really move. We needed the F-15 I won;t deny it, but the F-4 was or is a timeless airframe... W/new engines and avionics, it should still be flying in the USAF/ANG and USN. Not to mention the Bone.... Ok, I'm getting off target here....
Don't mind my tangents... it comes from the booze mostly! |

This is true but not all of the interesting stuff is classified on the F-22 anymore and as for your Phantom II tangent, I couldn't agree with you more, check out the forum thread 308th FS Block 25 F-16s, I posted a pic of me with my first Phantom, I'm glad someone else has a passion for them. |
