There are currently openings for crew chiefs, hydraulics and electric shop. There will be two avionics openings in the near future. The crew chief openings are both in phase and out on the flightline.
These are excepted technician positions, meaning you must be eligible for military membership. A Wg-10 starts at $18.11.

All the State HRO offices by OPM law have to advertise thier openings on USA Jobs http://www.usajobs.opm.gov but some states have not yet transfered it over. All you have to do on USA Jobs is search by series and type in 8852 that's the WG series for acft mechanic ie Crew Chief. Then you will get lots of hits depending how far back you let it search by 24hrs to 30 day or all jobs and you can narrow it down by state. You can also go to http://www.neguard.com/HRO/otherjobs-linkspage.html and that site has all the links in one place to every state HRO webpage and their openings. But some states when you go there once you click on the job opening it will go to USA Jobs and you can apply there online or by mail. Hope that helps. |

To clarify a few things.
Yes, $18.11 is very low for a WG-10, San Antonio has the lowest pay scale in the civil service pay system. The standard caveat is that because our cost of living is so low, you can still live as well here on $18 an hour as you did in Houston on $22 an hour. That is not why OPM has us that low, it's prevailing wage. A wage survey was done a few months ago, no indication of what affect that will have on pay.
We have 20 WG-12 crew chiefs and 4 WG-10's on the flight-line, so although the current opening is for a WG-10, there will be opportunities for a 12 in the future as people move up/retire. Phase is all WG-10.
San Antonio is a great place to live and raise kids, I have relatives in League City (south of Houston), their house that they paid almost 300k would go for 180 to low 200 here. PM me if you have specific questions.
Good Luck. |
