I work for Boeing St Louis. The company is great except for one thing. They think their engineers walk on water and can do everything. Good luck getting some of these jobs if they say the applicant must meet the engineering requirements. I lost my maintenance job to an engineer out of college with only an engineering degree and no experience. They only thing he knew about acft is the pointy end goes forward. On the other hand I was a F-16 CC for 4 1/2 years, won MX professional of the year and many other awards, received a BS in Aviation Maintenance Technologies w/GPA 4.0/4.0 with over 16 years maintenance background. I know many will say what are you not telling us, but a lot of people know me on this forum, I have always worked hard and done well. It's just something Boeing does that is extremely stupid.

I feel your pain, Pratt was even worse. They would layoff over a 1000 people just before Christmas each year, only to rehire 1000 after January. Nice Christmas present wasn't it.

Lurch, I worked for Boeing in Fallon for 3 years before going to flight school for the National Guard and just got rehired now that im done with flight school. My experience with them was great, with the exception of the senority game the union plays its a pretty good job. I was just curious if anyone one here applied, I was told there was 52 applicants just wondering if any from here. Side note, I just drove through St. Louis a few weeks ago for the first time moving from Ft Rucker back to Reno, did the whole City Museum/Arch touristy crap.

Because Boeing has the Maintenance Contract on the Top Gun aggressor F-16's and F/A-18's and SH-60's. And Sikorsky does the contract maintenance on the F-5's. Go Figure huh. I work 16's and 18's out there.

Boeing St Louis is home to a lot of our military contracts, and it's good to have employees that have actually been on the other side. You understand the problems and issues and what solutions will actually work.
Boeing also does some F-16 training. They have an opeing right now in STL, and I have applied. Doubt I will get an interview (Engineering degree required). I have a BS in Aviation Maintenance Technologies and an MBA to boot.
Sweetpete: The City Museum is crazy, but also expensive. Our girls just love getting lost in that place. Were you able to get to the T-39's outside???? I'm 6'5" 160 lbs and that is a lot of effort to get up there.
well you think all this engineering needs is some BS degree, well let me say one thing, there is no way in the world that an engineer with a BS. MS or PHD can properly apply the the mechanics of an aviation tech when it comes to working on aircraft. Don't challenge me on this, I have a BS and an A&P and have worked on the side with general aviation aircraft to keep my A&P current, but even 35+ yrs of experience in commercial and military fighter propulsion systems design and integration from the concept to the TO support cannot land me a job a manager of maintenance. It all boils down to who you know and if the job is really made for someone trying to be promoted from within.
