Just curious on how the F-22 is washed. In the old days it would be taped, soaped and scrubbed. We used aircraft soap, and sometimes JP-4 and some PD-680, don't tell anyone....LOL.....

I could see the expression on there face if we used some MEK to clean part of it.......

This is from the Lockheed Martin website and is all i could find on the subject(not a thorough investigation, I admit Very Happy )

Quote:
Luedke went on: "Stealth gives the aircraft the ability to be nearly invisible to enemy sensors by reducing the Raptor's signature to that of a bird or bee. While stealth technology has been employed on other aircraft, the stealth technology the F-22 enjoys is superior in at least one major aspect -- it is a lot easier to maintain and repair. And, unlike other stealth aircraft, the F-22 doesn't need special climate-controlled hangers or to be followed around by lab technicians with chemistry sets to keep the low-observable coatings in pristine condition. Stealth alone has transformed how the U.S. Air Force fights wars, but the F-22 transformation doesn't stop there."

It doesn't say much but im gonna take a guess and say it's not that difficult, as in nothing much special is needed!

The aircraft is washed just like any other, except for maybe with the JP-8.

Soap and water. The newer material doesn't wash off (eg. B-2).

It's washed with the same stuff that is on the F-15 Qualified Products (QPL) list.
You don't want to get caught using anything else.

Take a look on three related USAF news photos, first released on Elmendorf´s public website and later also on USAF´s public main website! Sources:
