I have a deep passion for aviation, and i've been in the automotive field for 10 years, and cannot get into aviation. If i had time to go back to school to get an A&P i would, but having to work full time, its pretty much impossible. Is it at all possible to get into the field doing anything, i guess starting at the bottom, without having to go to school? The JRB out here has F-16's and F-18's, and i don't care if i wa a plane washer. Laughing

Oh, and i forgot to mention, i can't join the military because i'm diabetic. Wink

Basically, i have 5 years on the parts counter, and about 5 years as a service advisor. I'm very mechanically inclined. I chose not to actually work on cars because they bore me. I raced sportbikes for 4 years, and did my own mechanics. I didn't think about getting into the aircraft industry until late. Now i'm afraid its too late. I can't go back to school due to lack of time, and have to work full time to pay bills and stuff. Pretty much it in a nutshell.

If you're already in Ft. Worth, go down to Lockheed and apply for a job.

They usually have openings on the assembly line floor, you can work your way up and the pay and bennies for the union guys is pretty good.

If you know somebody in the union out there they might be able to help.

You might want to try Embry-Riddle out at NASJRB FTW. They may have some evening classes you can take and start earning credits towards an A&P in your off time. May even include a Sat class or something. As for working jets, you can try a local airport and work under and A&P mechanic who may need some assistance, you'll just have to scout it out. The local airports I am talking about would be smaller, like Spinks or somewhere close to your area. With that out of the [Link pending approval] notice from your earlier post you are a service advisor - hence the Maint. Officer comment I also saw- You will have to get your hands dirty, and make DAMN sure you do the job right the first time as someones life depends on it. This is not like being able to coast off the damn freeway if your motor quits. By the way, if working on cars bores you. Stay the hell away from aircraft.

Yeah, i've been trying all the smaller airports around. Most places want experience, or don't have anything. I'm going to check out that school though, thanks for that info on that, i didn't know it was out there.

embry-riddle also offers online classes, thats how i have taken alot of my classes.

Get in with the OV-10 guys over at the aircraft museum at Meacham, get your hands dirty working on the B-17 etc and start networking.
