Yes it is but with about 90% of the ones I have met in the past 9 years that would be the case.
I have met some good ones but they are so far and few between it's hard to remember.

You're going a little overboard with this one [Link pending approval] That is one hell of a generalization to make.

| trust me, i'll never be jealous of a crew chief. they can have that. it's just annoying that when i'm just trying to make a point, somebody jumps on with a "f**k egress" attitude. you work 14 hours on the ramp and i work 10 in the backshop. i chose egress and you chose that. whatever. everyday it happens though, one shop needs another, needs another, needs another to get the jet greened for that precious sortie. |

| You know we are all important. But the problem is, the AF wants everyone to feel like they have the most important job. I saw this when i cross trained to be a Fire truck Mech from a crew chief. They said we are the most important people on base cause with out fire trucks the airplanes wouldn't fly. But they also got mad when i brought up the point, we wouldn't be necessary if we didn't have airplanes. Which also makes me think, guy at the gym that hands out the towels, what do they tell him to make him feel like the AF would fall apart with out him. But i guess what i am sayin is crew chief, back shops, load toads, ammo, or who ever, it takes us all to make that plane fly. |

I did not intend this post to be a pissing match between AFSC’s
Personally I think Egress and Engines are a very important if not the most important specialty with this airframe. (I’m not going to say why)
However a Crew Chief is a “Jack of all Trades”, has to work harder than most, and generally has a clue about every system and sub-system listed in the –06
To be a good Crew Chief you have to love what you’re doing. I think that is not the case with sub-standard Chiefs.
I’m pushing 50 and can’t see anything better job satisfaction wise. |

i think that everyone just needs to chill. i have ready this entire thing and that is all it is, a pissin match. look everyone hs their importance. i think the message that was originally trying to get accross was that everyone is important it is just crew chiefs stand out a bit more because we are the ones with the last say so of the jet. we are the ones who do the insp everyday. if you can tell me another AFSC that looks over the jet everyday then more power to you. there isnt. i can tell you right now. that is why a crew chief' s name goes on the side of the canopy. that is why we talk to the pilot. on whos epr does it look bad if our jet doesnt fly well. the cc. yeah i know most cc' s now a days suck. i have been on the jet for the last 4 yrs. i am not the best but i do my job the way i am supposed to. everyone has a role to play. the only thing that sets cc's apart from all the others is we say if that jet is going up that day. because if i see something that just aint right my name is not going on that 781H. the first page the pilot looks at. the first thing that pilots like por sups look at. did the cc say the jet was good to go!!!! |

ah humm....I think weapons is the last to see the jet and the first when it lands DCC. and weapons give the mission purpose, without weapons your just an airline.
That's the second time I've said that, first time was in 1973 USAFE in the Stars and Strips. Still true today.
Nice exchange guys good to see pride is still apart of our jobs! |

| weapons is not last to see the jet that would be the crew chief. he is the last person to talk to the pilot at eor. well atleast at every base that i have been at. he is the one that gives the last ok that the jet is ready to fly. |

EOR CC hands off to the weapons crew who pulls the pins and then he taxi's out. Procedure now is to have a weapons hook up as well, confirm all switches off safe and norm. Crew dogs must be clear before chaff flare pin is pulled.
USAFE may do things different than CONUS now, but the last time I was in USAFE 96-2000 (Incirlik Turkey) it was just as I said.
What we do now is carry a set of chalks, and after the crew dogs finish we hand them our set while they move to the next jet, then we pull their set after we're done and repeat the operation all the way down the line until finished. |

| i know for a fact that the crew chief is the one that talks to the pilot last before takeoff. i have been in ACC, PACAF, and now USAFE. it is all the same. dearm is different but arm is all the same. yes we all know that weapons isnt supposed to pull the chaff/flare pin till the jet is cleared by the cc but how many do you know that does that. also i am pretty sure that the cc is the one who relays that all switches are in safe and norm. i was also an EOR pad dad when i was at cannon. this is how i know all of this and i worked eor in kunsan and here at aviano before i moved to phase. i know my job. are you weapons aor ACMI ACMIguy? |
