| We can pray, offer comfort to those still with us, and remember those who no longer are. I try to think of what someone who I knew and passed away would want me to do or what I'd want others to do when I finally leave this earth. I'd want them to go on with their life and do the best they possibly could. We can honor their them by remembering them and doing the best we can in life. |

S. Koreans mourn victims of jet crash
Pacific edition, Thursday, July 26, 2007
By Hwang Hae-rym and Teri Weaver, Stars and Stripes
SEOUL — South Korean military officials this week were still investigating what caused a KF-16 jet to crash last week in the ocean, killing two South Korean air force pilots, according to the Ministry of National Defense.
The nighttime crash Friday during a training flight off the country’s western coast killed Lt. Col. Lee Kyu-jin and Capt. Park In-chul, according to the ministry. Lee, 38, and Park, 27, each were promoted one rank posthumously.
Park’s father was Korean Air Force Maj. Park Myeong-rhyeol, who was killed in 1984 in an F-4E during a joint Team Spirit exercise, according to the ministry.
[Lt. Col. and Capt. were their ranks before they were promoted posthumously.]

confirm the KF-16D and/or its pilots are 121st FS, 20th FW?
Please let the families mourn in peace and let the guys rest in peace …
The healing process now is to find out what happened so we can prevent a future occurrence.
Rest in Peace Mates |

Article dated 2007.08.10.
From 2007.08.13, ROKAF F-16 resume training fights. ROKAF has about 30 F-16, which have different engine from KF-16.
ROKAF has about 130 KF-16, which continue to be grounded since the KF-16D crash on 2007.07.20. |

Blog article dated 2007.08.16, in Korean.
Apparently a brief list of ROKAF accidents, from 1994.05.20 to 2007.07.20. Involve F-4, F-5, and F-16/KF-16.
(Will someone else decipher the Korean? Or suggest other sites with more comprehensive, detailed, historic lists of ROKAF post-Korean War accidents? Sigh.) |

Well, as is the case with some accident investigations, the cause is at best only an educated guess. With most crashes that end up a smoking hole in the ground or a million pieces onthe sea bed evidence is hard to come by. Dont know what the evidence is in this particullar crash but the fact that they claim "Vertigo" as the cause idicates a lack evidence showing otherwise or hard evidence showing vertigo. At the very least hope it gives the families of the crew a bit more closure.
