Two-seater over water.
Happened about 9:00 PM local.
No contact with crew; helicopters and ROK Navy searching.
My last information was about 11:00 PM local, which is around 1400 GMT Friday. Hope daylight brings good news.
My thoughts and prayers with the pilots, their families and the ROKAF. |

Dear nanaus2,
Please know that my heart aches for your country. I pray that God will comfort the families and friends of the pilots.
Don't worry about your English. God knows all the languages. He knows the voice of your heart.
May He bring you peace. |

The last time a ROKAF F-16 crashed and its ejected pilot was picked out of the drink, I bookmarked some sites of South Korean newspapers in English.
Quote:
Air Force found fragments of jet that went missing
Fragments of a South Korean jet fighter that disappeared during nighttime training Friday were discovered off the west coast, and the pilots are assumed dead, the Air Force said Saturday.

Lt. Park In-chul, who was killed when the KF-16 jet fighter he was piloting crashed into the West Sea on Friday.
A KF-16 jet fighter crashed into the West Sea on Friday, presumably killing its pilot Capt. Park In-chul (27) of the 52nd Air Force Academy class. Park’s father, an Air Force pilot himself, was also killed in a jet fighter accident in 1984. Maj. Park Myung-ryul, a graduate of the 26th Air Force Academy class, was killed when an F-4E Phantom jet fighter he was piloting during the Korea-U.S. joint Team Spirit military exercise crashed. Park junior was only five years old at the time.

How Many More Military Planes Must Crash?
Updated July.23,2007 10:16 KST
A KF-16, the main fighter jet of the Korean Air Force, crashed into the West Sea at around 9 p.m. last Friday. This is the fifth crash involving a KF-16 fighter jet August 1997. It’s been only five months since another KF-16 crash in the West Sea last February exposed widespread incompetence in maintenance operations as well as a breakdown of discipline within the ranks of the Korean Air Force.

KF-16 tragedy

Yet another KF-16 fighter jet crashed last Friday, leaving us at a loss for words. The crash occurred only five months after the same type of jet crashed over the East Sea. Five months ago, a faulty engine caused the crash.

Yahoo! South Korea News articles about and photos of the two pilots, and one of the pilots' father.
They will be remembered with honour. <(T_T)
BTW, I don't know whether the ROKAF has announced the serial number or squadron yet?
Also, assuming the ROKAF fans in ROK parallel the ROCAF fans in ROC and the JASDF fans in Japan, I guess the Web must have ROKAF fan sites that are either general sites, or sites dedicated to one particular ROKAF aircraft type, such as the KF-16. Any such site is foreigner-friendly?
(For comparison, a ROCAF fan site or two are in English, but I don't seem to recall any JASDF fan site in English.) |
