Have any F-16 units been integrated with the GBU-39 SDB and BRU-61 4 bomb pneumatic carry system? I know the Strike Eagles have been using it since last October.

The Boeing website says "integration is underway" on F-16 and other A/C.

We loaders need another weapon for the load barn. Laughing

Yes integration is underway, but you wont see the loading in a 1-2 for a few more years or longer depending on the Blk aircraft.

Cheers,

Actually, if the things come preloaded from Ammo on the BRU, it could be a really simple load. No carts on the BRU, just MAU-12 carts. One can hope. Smile

SDB is slated for MMC 6.0 tape to be fielded in 2012. That will be the block 40/50's. Block 30's right now are further to the right. Due to integration issues, it's a high cost item to hang on a viper. 1st sims to look at integration design is in a couple weeks at Lockheed.

Thats actually not entirely true. F-16 Blk 30's will have SDB Phase I in 2011.

Cheers,

ViperDude, you could be right, I only do OT on 40's and 50's, and try to keep an eye on what AATC is doing (block 30 test). I thought it got kick down to Scu 8.

One of yesterdays contracts ( 20 Dec 07 )

McDonnell Douglas Corp., of Saint Louis, Mo., is being awarded a contract modification for $14,759,087. The Small Diameter Bomb (SDB 1) is procuring various test assets in support of aircraft/weapon integration for threshold and follow-on aircraft. This test hardware will support SDB I integration on F-16 Block 30, F-16 Block 40/50, F-22A, and maintain interoperability on the F-15E. The type of test hardware being procured include: BRU-61A with telemetry carriages, separation test vehicles, jettison test vehicles, guided test vehicles and reliability assessment vehicles-inert (RAV-I). Delivery of the hardware begins in January 2009. At this time all funds have been obligated. 918 ARSG/PK, Eglin Air Force Base, Fla. is the contracting activity (FA8681-06-C-0210, P00024).

The Block 25/30/32 F-16 Expanded Enhanced Fire Control Computer (EEFCC) performs
aircraft weapon delivery, sensor cueing, and navigation functions. Currently, the EEFCC is operating at
maximum capacity and incapable of providing the processing power required for planned upgrades. This
limitation precludes upgrading connections between aircraft processors to increase bandwidth, a step required
for Software Capability Upgrade-8 (SCU-Cool, Helmet Mounted Cuing System (HMCS) integration, Small
Diameter Bomb (SDB) fielding, and Mode V advanced combat identification compliance. Replacing the
EEFCC with the Commercial Fire Control Computer (CFCC) solves these problems and ensures future growth
capacity. The CFCC will greatly increase F-16 processing power, serve as an avionics Ethernet hub, and allows
implementation of advanced sensor, identification, and weapons requirements. This system is foundational to
all future upgrades and required for the planned fielding of SCU-8 in 2011. New ethernet connections between
the CFCC and other aircraft processors will enable increased bus traffic for weapons such as SDB and robust
implementation of digital video recording.

That means we will fly F-35 a year after we get the upgrade if dates by F16wedge stay on track. Oh well I'm getting to old anyway.
