I believe there are three F-16 squadron equivalents currently at Balad. There is an ANG rainbow squadron (Toledo, OH/Tulsa, OK) and an ARC rainbow squadron (NAS Fort Worth JRB, TX/Homestead ARS, FL) along with the PACAF 13FS (Misawa AFB , Japan). All are assigned to the 332AEW.
Is this still current? |

I’m glad the pilot banged out successfully, my thoughts are with the crewchief as well … Life is not easy when your sh*t goes down, and it’s worse being deployed to a sh*t hole like Iraq away from family. |

According to the first USAF news release, the pilot was transported to the Air Force Theater Hospital for evaluation. And according to a public online 332nd AEW fact file, this hospital is assigned to the 332nd AEW at Balad AB:
332nd Expeditionary Medical Group: The medical group provides a wide range of medical services to Airmen, Soldiers, Sailors and Marines throughout the Iraqi theater of operations. The group operates the Air Force Theater Hospital, the equivalent of a Level 1 trauma center, and sees more than 1,200 patients per month of which more than 650 are trauma cases. It also operates the Contingency Aeromedical Staging Facility (CASF), often described as a way station for strategic patient movement, which is responsible for prepping patients for aeromedical evacuation out of theater. The medical group also runs the Air Force clinic, which is responsible for handling routine medical appointments for the Airmen assigned to Balad.
Note: All of that means, the F-16 pilot is still on Balad AB and was not transferred to Landstuhl, Germany, like other injured personnel. |

"What we do is inherently dangerous and we train our Airmen to respond to this kind of incident," said Brig. Gen. Burton Field, 332nd AEW commander. "When something like this happens, you really see everyone come together as a cohesive team to assess and control the situation.
"The men and women here are highly trained professionals prepared to accomplish the mission in a variety of conditions and circumstances," he said.
Aircraft from the 332nd AEW provide close air support to coalition forces around the clock, saving American and Iraqi lives, and helping in Iraq's transition to democracy.
The 332nd ECES explosive ordnance disposal unit will clear the crash site of any munitions and an investigation into the cause of the crash has been started. Accident investigations typically last a month or longer.
The Air Force has been flying combat missions in the region since Operation Desert Shield in 1990.

I should slap myself for posting this, but as a crewchief you want to know what happened to the jet immediately.
I only wish the SIB 8 hour interim report would be made to the public ASAP once finalized.
I hate to speculate, and I want to make that clear, however, if I was a bookie (I live in Vegas) here are the odds on what happened
