Why isn't there a "FIRE-T-Handle" in the F-16

Given the emergency procedures for ground run operations, and I'm sure they are the same for pilots ... why isn't there a T handle to snuff everything out in one go?

Why in the GE for an auto accel it is Throttles off then SEC, and the Pratt it is throttle off main fuel off etc.

Thoughts

Interesting because the flight manual procedure for auto accel for all GE and PW engines is the same: throttle OFF, FUEL MASTER - OFF. (Only one throttle in a Viper, but given your callsign I understand that old habits die hard. ) Very Happy

There are no fire extinguisher bottles in the F-16. The fire T-Handles on all aircraft that I know of have two positions. The first detent shuts all fluid flow to the engine at the firewall. The second releases the retardant to extinguish the fire. In the Viper, if you have a fire that can't be shut off by THROTTLE-OFF, JFS-OFF, FUEL MASTER SWITCH-OFF then it is time for both the pilot or the ground crew to abandon the jet expeditiously. A fire in an F-16 will leave very little left by the time the fire crews can get to it.

Don't know too much about Pratts but GEs were blessed with having 4 modes of operation. If you were on ground and the engine had an uncommanded accel, selecting SEC prevents it from going into burner if you were to get no response from the throttle. If you were to just cut fuel off, and the throttle never responded in the first place, it would still be possible for it to light off until starved itself.

Halon is only a fire suppressant for the fuel system.

It's a preventative. The fuel inerting system won't put out a fire, it only prevents explosion of fuel vapors in the internal fuel tanks. Evil or Very Mad

99 percent of the time the bottles aren't charged anyway.
