Are you waiting to throw a party or something? The jet is ready, but its getting alot of precautionery measures (a lot of them government mandated). It seems alot like first flight...they are giving it the same care as if it had never flown before.

Correct. A number of unexpected issues have come up after the flight 19 issue was resolved, including the engine failure. They have all been resolved now....the bird will fly soon.

They're test engineers. They don't like surprises. A good test flight is a boring test flight.

My comment might have been a foul as flight safety is paramount.

I met an aviation engineer the other day that impressed me; he works for NASA (a “second” as I think engineers are smart, but narrow minded and limited to their forte’)

I’ve only met 2 perfectionists in my maintenance career and he is one of them … the other Past/Present worked for March, Leyton House, Benneton, and Honda Formula 1 teams.

Other than the F-1 engineer who is in the UK, the other is a Purdue Graduate.

My point is, if you have a reputable Purdue graduate amongst you … go with what they say and “lets get it done”

I personally don’t believe the PW is the problem … If the motor is holding things up, well then D-tune it and get the rest of the test cards finished, so we can get the new “backbone” of the AF up and running.

Yes, this project is big, people are paid big money to figure this sh*t out.

This isn't a '69 camaro. There is no duct tape or quick fix for a new jet.

Come on, if American defense contractors were paid anymore, we would have to literally *contract* out our national defense as we could NOT afford it ourselves!! We're bout to go broke now as it buying all this * chump change* hardware!! I realize by an large it is the best in the world!! But to say they aint gettin paid GOOD money for it is ridiculous IMHO!!

LM practically designed the F-22 as a favor to a government. If it wasn't for the F-35 win, LM would be left to survive on F-16 exports and might even sell that to Boeing. The fact that the country is broke has NOTHING to do with aviation defense contractors, but it has EVERYTHING to do with government politics. You think LM saw any part of the increased defense spending for the war? Hell no. In fact, they tightened the leash. Meanwhile, LM has to figure out a way to design a state-of-art fighter jet, and still buy the best quality hardware to protect the nation. So what happens? The engineering workforce is reduced and the remaining engineers must do double the work for the same amount of money to keep the blissfully ignorant taxpayer from complaining to their local congressmen. But it's ok, F-35 flybys sooth the soul Smile
