All I hope is that it holds up in a fire fight with CHINA. If we fight them off the coast of china defending Taiwan they will have 1,550 fighters available and unless we deploy in concentration on the island, I question whether or not enough could be in the area so I hope the 35 is up to snuff.

I hope, but you never know. They are upgrading their military.

What some forget is...do you really think that all 1500 fighters will take to the air at the same time? No...unless they want to give up the war almost instantly. Air war does not mean every jet in the air at the same time.

I think it would perform at least as well as our fourth-generation fighters.

That would be a rather (unrealistically) large buildup (they also have a couple of hundred Su-30MKKs and Su-30MK2s that they usually count as attack aircraft), so I doubt it would simply escape our notice, giving us time to prepare. How many fighters do you think we'd need to deter an attack? And not to sound overconfident, but if air attacks do commence anyway, providing our forces with a target-rich environment, I imagine that the first wave of fighters and attackers being annihilated by F-22s would be somewhat demoralizing. A swift counterattack with F-22s armed for air combat and DEAD followed by F-35s armed for attacking airbases would also be somewhat demoralizing.

There is no reason to believe it won't.

And the US is standing still? F-22, F-35, F/A-18E/F BII, B-2 upgrades (those 84x 500lbs JDAM's per aircraft per flight are going to sting a bit don't you think?) B-1B upgrades, the list goes on.

Everywhere the Chinese are improving, the US is improving at a faster rate...

Just close down Wall Mart and the Chinese ability to pay for their air force vanishes over night Laughing

If the US and China should ever clash then all imports from China would stop over night and that is something I doubt the Chinese people or leadership is willing to offer for that little island off their cost. On the other hand, Wall Mart and the likes may have influence enough in DC to stop the US defending Taiwan for the very same reason.

to take it one step further - most, if not all, corporate and political decisions are based on financial factors, unless religion comes in to the picture. So make your own decision based on that. Who would benefit financially from attacking who? The F-35/F-22/B-2 all are part of making an attack on the US a bad financial decision though...

I agree. China has still a long way to go. But it`s walking ( peacefully or not ). I think you overstate religion when it comes to financial decisions . Shocked But please explain.
