They bought 30+ fighters, arms, and now negotiations with Russia for 9 subs.....I think they will be a thorn in our sides.

I think it'll be more like Castro, but on a much smaller scale. My biggest worry is that Chavez will do something really stupid like attack one of his neighbors and the U.S. might have to go in and clean up.

The fighters wouldn't be a very big problem vs. the U.S. B-2s and F-22s, the subs are probably quiet on batteries, but they still have to snorkle with the diesel and that's when a U.S. nuke boat would have a great shot, and the small arms are just small arms.

The biggest part of this is that Chavez is trying to thumb his nose at the U.S. by spending elsewhere with money gained from Citgo stations all around our country.

That's my take, anyway.

Chavez... Is a crazy dude. But I don't think he wants to mess with the US. He just doesn't want to seem impotent to his neighbors. And with the kind of oil revenues Venezuela gets, they could buy a Raptor squadron if they were allowed... Thank God they aren't.

Well, now he's looking to go with nuclear power. Somehow that doesn't leave me with a warm, fuzzy feeling...
