I already put this on arc, but I figured I'd give it a shot here too.
Has anybody used this set, specifically the gun and gun bay? I really want to know of other peoples experiences with this, and if it's so frustrating that I shouldn't bother....like how on earth does the resin piece that goes to the end of the ammo feed chute attach to the ammo drum? It seems like the verlinden guys had a great idea on paper but never actually put the thing together to see if it works....
TIA

Nate,
You'll probably find they did all the hardwork when they first made and designed the resin kit parts . But Verlinden and his outfit are notorious for not providing modelers with instructions to put all those pieces together .

I gave up modelling years ago due to frustrations and wasted money when kits went wrong . Got loads of his unopened stuff sat in my loft gathering dust. Must sell it on as I'm not going back to it!!! |

uh oh.....
Asif, can you list/post what F-16 related kits you have? The "habu brothers" have been known to be looking for these... |

| I have a couple of Verlinden books where they built Hasegawa 1:48 F-16s. I noticed they didn't even use their own detail sets on the builds featured in the books... |

Of the top of my head. I have the Hasegawa 1/48th F-16A and F-16C (Misawa Japan "MJ" markings). Possibly multiple versions of both and maybe other marks to. But can't confirm this as its been over 10+ years since I last looked at them!
Have plenty of Tomcat, Eagles and Phantoms (The Brit Phantom. Still the best Hasegawa kit!!, would explain why I have more than 1!) & the odd Hornet and Skyhawk (Fujimi A-4 with top Gun Markings)

Also will check if I have the Verlinden 1/48th update kits. I had a opened Gun Bay kit & radar update set. Boxes only opened once to verify content. Never made up.
Also have the large scale ESCI Cockpit kit. But I may keep that!!!

I have those books to. You'll probably find that he's done all those scratch built using plasticard and home crafted parts. To sell those would have been a nightmare. Easier to get his crew to come up with a resin - metal detail set which can be produced more commercially at lower cost. (Still costly for most modellers, I might add!)

hi Nate,
I can't agree more on your sentiment. I have worked on the Verlinden Super Detail set and the work stoppage is too @ the gun drum.
Check out CMK Armament set for Hasegawa kit (4116). Have not started working on it, but I strongly believe it will be so much easier to work on, as compare to the VP set.
A few words on the CMK's set. Unlike the VP's set, it has less item. Minus the gun barrels & external power bay. And it only come with one avionic bay (1101). Though a detail set of lesser items, CMK set has a neat radome complete with some internal details on the AOA probe and air data hoses.
Have fun with the VP set. Do post us some pictures. By the way, which section did you post the thread over @ ARC? I couldn't seem to find it.
cheers, |

| I've used the CMK F-16A cockpit set, and I think it's a very good set. The ACES II seat looks a bit big to me, but that could just be beacuse it's sitting atop its plug, and I haven't painted it or fitted it yet. Buty the cockpit tub is nice, accurate. |

Sorry Nate, I have failed to mention on the photo-etched avionic door provided in the Verlinden set. If you have not started folding/rolling them, they're really too thin to get into the correct shape. Try cutting some Plastic Card to the right size, mold them to the right shape after hot water treatment could be a better alternate solution.
Habu, the interior set by the product ID of 4117? I guess I will get one if they have done it for the C pit. Any other comments, less the ACES II seat, if you were to compare with the Black Box set? Some picture will be nice.
PS: by any chance, you could refer me to Nate's post on ARC? |

okay, I finally found the thread @ ARC. Should have used the search function sooner.
Nate, I too used the BB pit! What a coincidence. Like what Habu has suggested, I scaled down both the BB and VP resin. They fitted quite nicely. You might want to consider the weight distribution on the nose area. In addition, I remember the external power bay too obstructed the intake.
Back to the gun bay, if you have the DACO book, I believe it will be a great help.
have fun, |

| Know what Des, I did have pics of the CMK set, but got rid of them. Now I could only get pics of it painted up. But I put it away, when I put my Netz build on hold. |

| Well, the CMK set doesn't include a full instrument panel, just enhamcements for the kit panel. Other than that, the sets are pretty much on par. |

| Well, no luck with it yet, but I'm getting closer...I don't think I'm going to get the cmk set, I've already put 35-40 bucks into the kit already..wait, I got twobobs decals too...anyways, I'm feeling stubborn so I think I'm gonna try and get it done and not give up since it will definitely be unique since it seems no one else has got this set to work....screw the panels though, they do deform badly becuase the framework is etched on the inside...anyways, just wanted to say thanks a ton, I haven't lost hope yet : ) BTW, I posted in the jet modeling section of ARC... |
