I read somewhere that the USN was looking at buying low milage F-5's from some European countries to fill the ag role. Could be fluff but who knows.

USN already bought some 42 F-5E/F's from Switzerland last year - after a bit of modification they are now known as F-5N's.

The returned Vipers are still carrying US national markings. To bring these in line with "normal" squadrons, it would be natural to also apply tail marings in the form of LJ to them. Would make them a little bit less interesting for big nosed snoopers.

Hi Leandro,

Thanks for Your great and interesting photo!! My guess would be that those Vipers have been at Lajes for so long now that someone considers them "based " there and thereby have given them the "LJ" tail code like the US Viper squadrons representing the base or state they are based in.

Ground Crew fun I guess.

Greetings,

Henrik.

Read the current issue of Air Force Monthly. The reason for the 'LJ' markings explained, plus reason for the lengthy stay.

US delivers four F-16s
By Our Correspondent

WASHINGTON, June 25: The United States has delivered four refurbished F-16 fighter jets to Pakistan.

Diplomatic sources told DawnNews that two more planes would be delivered next month.

The United States had agreed to provide 12 refurbished F-16s to Pakistan as part of a package to replenish the country’s defence capabilities.

Pakistan received two of these earlier this year while four were delivered last month.

Four F-16s left the United States on Tuesday and are expected to reach Pakistan on June 28.

Two more will be delivered next month.

Pakistan is also buying 18 new F-16 jets from the United States.

Initially, Islamabad had agreed to buy 36 of these aircraft at a total cost of $5.1 billion, which included associated weapons, spares and upgrading of a fleet purchased in the 1980s.

But due to financial constraints it later decided to halve its order.

Pakistan, however, will still have to spend $1.3 billion on mid-life update and modification of the F-16A/B aircraft purchased earlier. Engine modifications and purchasing some new equipment for the old fleet will cost Pakistan an additional $151 million.

The sources said the new aircraft would be equipped with weapons and facilities that came with an F-16 Block 50/52 aircraft. The planes would be capable of carrying nuclear and non-nuclear weapons.

The United States will have the right to conduct frequent inspections and inventory checking.

Is it going to take forensic science to figure out the prior US designation of these tail numbers?

Well,

Let me take a guess at it.
In the past we identified the two aircraft already delivered as being #90-0948 and #90-0951. They first had local Pakistani numbers of #91613 and #92616. They evidently received new codes being #90613 and #90616. So if you compare that data with these aircraft numbers on the picture, that would give me this list:

FY T/V Pakistani # USAF # Current #

90-0948 DH-1 91613 90948 90613 confirmed
90-0949 DH-2 92614 90949 90614 photo
90-0950 DH-3 92615 90950 90615 photo
90-0951 DH-4 92616 90951 90616 confirmed
90-0952 DH-5 92617 90952 90617 photo
92-0452 DH-6 92618 92452 92618 not confirmed
92-0453 DH-7 93619 92453 92619 not confirmed
92-0454 DH-8 93620 92454 92620 not confirmed
92-0455 DH-9 93621 92455 92621 photo
92-0456 DH-10 94622 92456 92622 not confirmed
92-0457 DH-11 94623 92457 92623 not confirmed
92-0458 DH-12 94624 920458 92624 not confirmed
92-0459 DH-13 95625 920459 92625 not confirmed
92-0460 DH-14 95626 920460 92626 not confirmed
92-0461 DH-15 95627 920461 92627 not confirmed

Greets,

PS, BTW, if anyone has individual photos of these aircraft, please let us know.
