What will the USN fly when the Pakistani F-16's are gone???

Actually I heard the USN is still reluctant on transferring them to the PAF, and that the U.S offered ex-ANG aircraft as an alternative. Last I recall, efforts are still being made by PAF to get the USN F-16s.

I wonder if the USN F-16s are relatively "brand new" as termed for the USAF F-16s? If age is an issue for PAF, then I guess it'll consider another batch of C/Ds in addition to the (maximum) 36 in the current deal?

Well. considering the heavy use of USN F-16's. I don't think its a age issue........Regardless, I am surprised that Pakistan would want them after even a few years on Naval Service! Confused

So does anyone think the recent turmoil in Pakistan will affect the US support of the PAF F-16 program? Could we see another embargo?

There was a brief article on this in this past week's issue of Jane's Defence Weekly.

The short answer is no, the US has no intention of altering the supply of weapons to Pakistan in the near term. America still needs Musharraf to help us control and hunt down the islamic extremists.

Henrik, do you have more details on the serials of these A/C's?

Are these part of the original embargoed Vipers?

Hi Niels,

I believe that the two new deliveries are;

F-16Bs;
90-0948 - 91613 but marked 90613.
90-0951 - 92616 but marked 90616.

Both are from the embargoed batch.

Greetings,

Henrik.

I wonder why these aircraft were in CONUS so recently? Would probably be upgrades right? Any one know? They clearly have USAF markings but no sign of MLU.

Probably the date in the database is the agreement date for return, and not the actual date of physical return? This would explain the "late" return?

Also funny to see that the USAF returns 2 of the "least used" ones - given that all the rest are occupied with agressor training, while these were "only" testbeds Wink

The return of those "original" ones to CONUS would signal the start of the PAF MLU upgrade and these two are probably the prototypes with the reminder being done in Pakistan at the Kamra complex.

Greetings,

Henrik.

Hi,
The last 2 Pakistani F-16's that landed at Lajes back on 11-jan-2008 are still there. Almost everyday the ground personel turn the engines on and off, they made a "test flight" back in 11-feb-2008 that ended in a emergency landing (82603 with some problems on the engine).
Now after 3 months at Lajes they were coded LJ, that is very strange...

Here you can see the new LJ code:
http://www.azoresairphotos.com/foto.php?codfoto=5046

Anyone knows why they coded those 2 Pakistani f-16's LJ??

Best Regards,
Leandro Rocha.
