Has anyone heard any rumours about USAFE bases turning all Transient Alert sections over to contractors? With 3800 military positions being eliminated through out the command, something will have to give.

I was in TA for 3 great years at Bitburg as active duty. It was one of my best assignments. We did have two German nationals working with us and they knew more about aircraft then I ever dreamed of. I would do it again tomorrow.............. Abends Bit..Morgen Fit.... Cheers

There's a little thing called the A-76 Program. Military maintenance positions being replaced by civilian contracts in locations that have no combat commitments. Can you say Nellis? No word on USAFE.

I lived through an A-76 study here at Hill to see if a civilian contractor could do the job cheaper than civilian technical instructors(its not just a military thing). It was a nightmare. We were frozen in our positions for over 2 years while they hammered that one out.

Was it a Happy Ending or are we looking forward to some more nightmares?

USAFE TA has been contracted out now for a while. TrailBoss did have the contract at Spandahlem/Ramstein/Mildenhall, not sure if they still do. It's hard to get in, besides I know in Germany you don't get Logistical Support (ID Card/Gas Coupons). Had a friend that worked there and he had to get a second job with AAFES for the logistical support.

Be careful when you sign up for a T/A job. I was on a contract TA job and it went from 7 GI's per shift to two contractors per shift. You were always working more than you could handle. Bottom line was save money with less people.

Transient Alert at Ramstein & Spangdahlem has been going on since 2005 - GCH Services LLC is the contractor; RAF lakenheath & mildenhall also contracotr - Trailboss
Stuttgart Army Airfield - GCH Services LLC began Sep 2008

Can't speak to any other bases - but I believe all Germany is contractor

Anyone heard any rumours about USAFE bases turning all Transient Alert sections over to contractors, the transient alert contractors that marshaled them to their parking spot.
