Look up a song called "Armageddon". It's by a group called Prism and it has some great cockpit chatter. It was written in the late 70's or early 80's because one line in the song mentions ....."Jerry and Linda in the White House", referring to Jerry Brown, California's governor at the time and Linda Rondstadt.
Hope this helps

"Rock the Casbah," by The Clash. Great song, with an entire verse dedicated to fighter pilots. Coincidentally, it was the first song played by AFN Radio the night Desert Storm started.
Another good one is "Learning to Fly" by Pink Floyd, or "Learning to Fly" by Tom Petty & The Hearbreakers (Please note, those are NOT the same song!!)
I would've mentioned Kenny Loggins' "Danger Zone" but that would've been a little obvious now wouldn't it? |

There is also a Belgian song called Fly, performed by the group Machiavel.
Quote:
Fly, I wanna fly
It's been a long long time
I'm waiting for you at night
Fly, I wanna fly
And here's the excerpt from Rock the Casbah:
Quote:
The king called up his jet fighters
He said you better earn your pay
Drop your bombs between the minarets
Down the Casbah way
As soon as the shareef was
Chauffeured outta there
The jet pilots tuned to
The cockpit radio blare
As soon as the shareef was
Outta their hair
The jet pilots wailed
And how about Aces High by Iron Maiden?
Quote:
There goes the siren that warns of the air raid
Then comes the sound of the guns sending flak
Out for the scramble we've got to get airborne
Got to get up for the coming attack.
Jump in the cockpit and start up the engines
Remove all the wheelblocks there's no time to waste
Gathering speed as we head down the runway
Gotta get airborne before it's too late.
Running, scrambling, flying
Rolling, turning, diving, going in again
Run, live to fly, fly to live, do or die
Run, live to fly, fly to live. Aces high.
Move in to fire at the mainstream of bombers
Let off a sharp burst and then turn away
Roll over, spin round and come in behind them
Move to their blindsides and firing again.
Bandits at 8 O'clock move in behind us
Ten ME-109's out of the sun
Ascending and turning our spitfires to face them
Heading straight for them I press down my guns
Rolling, turning, diving
Rolling, turning, diving, going in again
Run, live to fly, fly to live, do or die
Run, live to fly, fly to live, Aces high.

| A bit of trivia.....the "Rock the Casbah" video was shot in Austin and the F-4s in the video were some of the jets assigned to Bergstrom at the time. The armadillo should have been another clue. |

I seem to also recall the big muckety mucks in Travis County, TX were none too appreciative of Joe Strummer, Mick Jones and the boys being in Austin filming that video. This was back when MTV was still "Controversial." What a joke... |

| Austin is a major music center with a large and active musical "scene", and is fairly progressive (well it used to be). A lot of movies are filmed in and around Austin as well. |

How about :
OMD - Enola Gay
as in : Hi, I dropped the A-bomb
And if I'm not mistaking, Enola Gay was the captain of the bomver plane, who went insane after realizing what he had done. |

They're not really fighter pilot songs, but I find myself listening to:
Aerosmith - Fly away from here
Lenny Kravitz - Fly Away
Foo Fighters - Learn to fly
I'm not sure about this one (haven't looked up the lyrics), but my first F-16 music video - and my latest video - is to the tune of Creed - Freedom Fighter.
*meh*... maybe I'm just obsessed. |

| Specifically, Pilot Col. Paul Tibbets mother. I don't recall which crewmember had the difficulties after the bombing, but I don't think it was Tibbets. I have read interviews with him when he was in his late 80s and there was no mention of this. |

Salute!
Actually, there is a great album out there with WW2 and Korean War vintage stuff. Name 'Brand"?
Will find the sucker and re-post.
Viet Nam era stuff is really raunchy, but some are only PG-13.
Go find the 'Nail' site and sing the song.....
The old lady saw the troop come to the door, holding a telegram. All excited, she asked the guy to sing the message.
"I always wanted a singing telegram".
"Hmmmm, I don't think so, ma'am".
" No! Go ahead and sing it!", she exclaimed.
"Well, OK, if that's what you want......."
*********
Dear Mom your son is dead,
He bought the farm today,
He crashed his OV-10 on Ho Chi Minh's Highway
It was a rocket pass,
And then he busted his a$$....
Hmmmmm, hmmmmmm, hmmmmmm
Then there was the one to the tune of a Christmas song - 'Wake the town and tell the people", or something like that.
Was re-written......
"Strafe the town and kill the people,
Kill them with your poison gas
Watch them throwing up their breakfast,
As you make your second pass......."
and the beat goes on..........
A sad epoch in American history, but most of us were just doing our duty as we were sworn to do.

Redline,
Actually there is a fighter pilot group called "Dos Gringos" both guys are F-16 pilots and do quite an awesome job. I have their CD and its a riot to listen to...even has my favorite song Jeramiah weed. You can search Amazon.com and look in the music section. They are quite popular in the military community as well, but mostly with pilots and crew chiefs. Hope that helps!
Cheers! |

Snooze is one (the primary singer) of Dos Gringos. He's now in our squadron teaching IFF. Trip is flying vipers at Luke (I think). Great CD.
