Until I read the story the headline made you think "ground fire" was enemy shooting at the airplane from the ground. It's nice to hear he got out okay.

I thought the same thing at first glance. Big, but subtle difference between "by" and "in"

Wonder what the last maint. performed was, I've been on the other end of the stick, did the last preflt on one that went down, turned out to be an ops error but I still got treated like sh*t.

I am real curious to see what jet it is. Toledo and Tulsa are there now and Toledo is my old unit. Good chance I have worked the airplane in the past.

Interesting, I thought the 55th FS was relieved by the 14th FS from Misawa AB, Japan in late Sep. ??
Greetings,

Special thanks to dabruiser for his very hot info!
In fact, the 14th EFS from Misawa AB replaced the 34th EFS from Hill AFB.
In a photo release <a href="http://www.388fw.acc.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123118823">34th Fighter Squadron returns from Iraq</a>, 388th FW PA stated:
10/8/2008 - Over 300 active duty and Reserve Airmen of the 34th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron returned Oct. 5 from a four-month deployment to Joint Base Balad, Iraq. This homecoming marks the close of 400-straight days at Balad for the 388th FW and 419th FW. From August 2007 to October 2008, the wings' fighter squadrons deployed back-to-back, flying over 5,000 combat missions and 20,000 hours. During 24-hour-a-day operations, they responded to over 3,000 requests for air support and provided precision-guided, air-to-ground weapons in over 200 engagements.
BTW: On October 16, egresstroop posted in the Balad topic:
egresstroop wrote:
The planes that the 77th took over there, stayed over there. They switched people with the 55th. The jets that Coronet saw were the Hill jets on their way back. They all stopped over here at Shaw for a pit stop on the way home. I was waiting till all the movement was done before outting my in. The Shaw jets that are at Aviano are there to get the pilots spun up on using the CCIP mod while the Aviano jets go through it.
On the same day, I posted:

[...] The 77th EFS is replaced by the 55th EFS, but only by personnel. Deployed Shaw AFB Vipers remained on station. According to an "Iron List", published by Air Force Times and already posted in this topic (see above), the 55th FS was "earmarked" for this AEF rotation. But at least currently, there's no related info on Shaw's public website. [...]
