We could call it the "Hunchback" or the "Quasimodo". I've also heard it called the "Pregnant Guppy". Just trying to be helpful.
As for the F-22, perhaps the ultimate nickname would be the "Chuck Norris" because Chuck Norris ALWAYS wins. |

| Haha the "Chuck Norris"... If we did that we'd have to re-name the AIM-120's and start calling them "Roundhouse Kicks" LOL |

That's what happens when you hang out with (or constitute) the wrong crowd.
If you call the mechanics for the aircraft the "wrong" crowd then I guess I do. |

Good one! We could also start a list of "facts" about the F-22 Chuck Norris, such as: "The Chuck Norris does not climb, it pushes the Earth away." And let's not leave the F-35 out--it could be the "Jack Bauer".

While it's understandable that those in charge of keeping a machine from falling apart on a daily basis would use such an "affectionate" name for it, this happens to be what all the real haters and Flanker zombies have called the F-22 for many years. When you speak jive, people are gonna think you're from the 'hood, dig? |

I'd wager the place you heard it was from the Flanker fan-boy club. |

| Those of us in other MWSs call it the "Big Baby" because of the restrictions placed on it and us during ACT training. |

SnakeHandler-
Not sure when/where you've fought Raptors, Mr Mad Mallard from Hell, but every time we fought them the SPINS/Restrictions were: bring it.
And we STILL consistently couldn't find them, target them, or have awareness of when they were targeting us.
So, other than a 1000' bubble (which isn't really a big deal unless you're doing BFM), I've never seen any restrictions placed on Red Air or on the Raptors that adversely affected an ACT scenario.
And I've certainly never heard anybody call it "Big Baby" besides you.
Upset that you didn't get picked up? Based on your SEC comment in the other thread, and your bro getting picked up, you seem to have some self security/confidence issues.
Bottom line is, that thing is an awesome fighting machine. I WISH I were getting to fly it, and most guys I know feel similar.
As far as nicknames go, to keep this on subject, they don't seem to have a whole lot in the community. Mostly just call it by its own name, Raptor. Haven't heard any of these other names thrown around, other than by people who are trying to force something onto it.
Some aircraft just end up sticking with their official nickname...some don't. |
