Fantastic! I was wondering if anyone had ever tried it. But... HOW IN THE WORLD DID YOU DO IT??!! Did you trace the pattern from the decal sheet to use as a mask? How did you get the mask to stick? I can just imagine how tough it would be to get the swooping stripes around the nose, the scalloped red on the leading edge of the v. stabilizer, etc., much less the big blue T-bird across the curvy bottom.

I'd sure be interested.

And nobody seems to be able to help with my retractable landing gear idea...(no crying smilie available... figures, it's an f-16 site, no crybabies here!)

Later,

Tom

As far as the landing gear idea man, you have my full support! I'm just telling ya, it will be no small feat.

Umm - actually, I think it'll be a very small feat! That's part of the problem! (sorry, couldn't resist!)

Well, I'm looking at it from an engineering standpoint. I think computer-aided solid modelling will be a big help, but I'm not sure that the materials used in the rapid prototyping machines, or "3D printers", are up to carrying the weight of the model. And I'll likely have to make some compromises. There's an outfit that makes scale retracts for the large-scale radio contol jets, and they've come awfully close to nailing every detail, including each individual plate in the little scissor-type linkage at the top of the drag link. That' ain't happenin' in 1/32 scale!

My big thing is a need some real-world dimensions to get started, or else the kinematics won't be right. If I get a solid model going, I'll post the animations. Like I was saying, what the heck do Tamiya. et al, use? This stuff has to be around... What's in Jakes book, or the DACO book? I'm a tightwad, but I'll buy them if they have what I need!

Thanks all,

Tom

Well you could start with the Tamiya kit part itself, they've already done the homework.

Yeah, I've looked at the parts tree on your site (I think that's yours, habu2.net? - nice site). I don't have the kit yet, talk about premature!

It's Habu2's site, not mine.
