A Turkish F-16 crashed today in the province of Konya.
The pilot, IIker Ozbil (34 y/o), could eject but was injured. He was transfered by helicopter to the medical center of Meram. He seems to be OK though.
The crash happened near the village of Altinapa Dam.

Glad the pilot's ok!
I found this article covering the crash on the web (Turkish):
http://www.stargazete.com/starextra/ind ... erid=53017
If one of our Turkish visitors could provide a brief summary of this article, that would help us a lot!
thanks,
stefaan |

His correct name is "Ilker Ozdil".
His Block40 F-16 went into SEC mode 5-10 minute after takeoff. While gaining altitude and carrying out RTB, there occured a flameout. He tried to restart it 2 times but there was no reply. So he ejected 15NM from the base. Thank God he is OK, no injuries. |

| The Turkish article Stefaan sent passes the words of a farmer witnessed the accidnet. The only extra info is that he says he saw a piece of the viper falling apart, then the plane crashed. Could these pieces be the external fuel tanks? |

Since he punched out it may have been the canopy. |

| Need confirmation & further detail. Was the jet armed? One of the Turkish articles after some partial translation mentioned a 500m exclusion zone and reference to unexploded ordnance. |

And safety people in general not wanting stuff trampled on too much so they can do their investigation.
edit- removed reference to hydrazine as I don't hold any ratings on the jet. |
