I did some searching on here, but couldn't find anything. Saw a show on the National Geographic channel about it and was just curious of the tail number.

The jet he was flying that day was 89-2032

http://www.f-16.net/f-16_mishaps_year-1995-num16.html

http://www.f-16.net/f-16_fighting_falco ... -2880.html

At one time I was interested in whether or not the jet was his assigned one....and I asked him...in person....and I kid you not, he said he didn't recall the tail # of the jet he was downed in. I also asked him which jet he was flying the day Wilbur Wright and Yogi Allen tagged the 4 Jastrebs.....no clue.

Now, I know that the guys driving these things aren't 100% focused on such trivia as to what jet they were flying on what day....normally, but these 2 instances...your leader shoots down 3 other jets, and the mission you get shot down on.....one would think they'd be memorable.

You can see for yourself exactly how thrilled he was to be asked questions about the incident

This would make a good shot for a caption competition:

"Now, listen here, O'Grady. You should have had your RWR audio turned up, God damn it!"

LOL, that was possibly the most uncomfortable moment in my life thusfar....you ever tried to hand somebody something, and they just weren't going for it?

Between that and the "embellishments" in the speech, I was pretty much done afterwards.

He doesn't seem to thrilled talking about it at all. From the interviews I've seen as well some pictures. Almost as if he's forced to be there to talk about it. Kind of like, 'Why the hell are you bringing this up, again??" Just my perspective

Oh no, he's THRILLED to talk about it.....for a pretty hefty fee....$15,000 in fact, for a 40 minute talk.

What he was completely unwilling to do was talk about it with me, LOL!

I guess 15K is a lot of force Very Happy

Is that why the history channel/discovery channel used an actor portraying Ogrady or was it bc he exudes personality?

I always thought it very strange using an actor to talk about these events in the first person. just weird.

Guys, Guys, come on. I shouldn't have to say this.

Some one said if you can't say something nice...

I forget who that person was, so...

Anytime anyone makes a big deal about fighter pilots you have to remember O'Grady was a fighter pilot. Dang that guy ruined a cool image. No on should be surprised he could not remember the tail number.

I will give O'Grady this much: You know how many different tails we fly? Basically, a different one every mission. I don't even have my friggin name on a plane! What would be the use? How often would I fly it? Maybe just a couple of times in the time that I'm assigned to that squadron? Yeah, at Altus, it was a little different. They only have like 8 birds, so it was easier to remember tail numbers. One thing that helps me remember C-17 tails, is if they are one of the "Spirit of..." birds.

One would think that if you got shot down in a particular jet, yeah, you might remember that tail number. Then again, you're on the ground for a few days, trying to evade. I'd be more worried about not getting my @$$ shot off, or not getting rolled up by the bad guys. In that situation, I could personally give two f*cks about the number of some friggin' jet that I pulled handles out of, and that nobody is ever going to fly again. And ARMO better not give me any $h!t about not remembering the tail number either, when I come back and finally fill out my 781. "You want the number? Fine, go ask the maintainer whose jet is missing, which number he or she used to be assigned to!"

As for Scott O'Grady, I think he's an arrogant blowhard, that was made a media puppet by the Clinton Administration, probably not only to put a positive slant on an unpopular war, but also to draw attention to what, or more to the point, who was under his desk at that particular time. (Monica BlewClintsky)

Scott O'Grady had the SERE syllabus changed, basically because he did everything wrong, and they'll tell you that at Fairchild. One of the retired contractor SERE instructors said he sat in on O'Grady's debrief, and he said he wanted to just blurt out, "Are you f*cking kidding me? Did you not remember ANYTHING you were taught at Fairchild?" Laughing

Hey TC and everyone else,

My dad couldn't agree more. He say's O'grady was even an idiot in training at Sheppard!!! "He obviously forgot the one rule taught by a pilot who has ejected - if you have to (eject), do it when you aren't IN COUNTRY!!!!!!!!!"

He says you can use that quote if need be.

Well, to be perfectly honest, I really didn't expect him to have total recall of the minutest details.....but what I was interested in was if he was in his assigned jet on the Jastreb kill mission.....I've never met a guy personally who didn't recall the tail # of "his" jet...if not, which tail was it.....again, how many times in your career do you get to be on a mission where there were 4 jet kills? Its not like I'm asking "hey, on Feb 6th, you did a routine patrol over Bosnia....remember which jet you were in?"

I was trying to answer the poster's original question....was it "O'Grady's jet" or one from the pool he was downed in.

He doesn't recall, so that's still a mystery.
