I just have to put in a vote for the mighty Iron Maiden!!! Come on, any band that gives you a song dedicated to the Spitfire pilots of WW2 such as "Aces High" or tracks like "The Trooper", "These Colors Don't Run" and "The Longest Day" surely deserves a mention here..
UP THE IRONS!!!! http://www.ironmaiden.com
Steve Harris, I am not worthy!!!! |

The Iron Maiden guys used to be fans of Jethro Tull, I heard- it influenced them a bit I suppose.
Iron Maiden's music is always derived from movies, shows or famous literature- actually, they did pretty well coming up with material that way!
I always liked the more guitar influential music myself, as well as classical and symphonic/movie soundtrack pieces.
Joe Satriani and Eric Johnson's earlier works were kickass. For Satriani it goes great with aircraft motiffs, such as:
The Snake- imagine F-5 Aggressors at Nellis, hassling with F-15s.
Circles- perfect for F-16s squaring off against some Floggers.
An F-15 demo flyer used to do his routine to 3 specific Eric Johnson tunes in this order:
Cliffs Of Dover
Righteous
Trademark
All from the same album, the demo flyer used them for like 4 years straight in the early 1990s.
I used to love making cassettes for airshow traveling back then. |

That's just perfect....
Cliffs Of Dover is an amazing song, but really hard to play in the guitar (I'm still trying to play it... since March, hehe) |

Ya'll seem to have forgotten one of the best guitarist of all time,
SRV........... Stevie Ray Vaughn. No better blues guitarist ever !!!
But I do have to agree that Richie Blackmore burns up the frets better than most. |

Yes, SRV is (along with BB King and Hendrix)one of the gods of blues... He had a wonderful playing (mostly inspired by Hendrix) and the most impressive thing is that he learned all by himself!
Here's SRV playing one of his best songs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tWLw7nozO_U

Of course tim... and Blackmore did things that other guitarist can't do: he was perfect playing blues and heavy rock, with a lot of feeling and technique, and he was gorgeous playing classical pieces and minor scales (like Bach, Beethoven, and more...)
Here's a good example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqqyEv0Qy9Y
hope you enjoy it, greetings!!!
Cheers |
