In September 2006 the Belgian F-16 pilot Michael "Mickey" Artiges beat a Dodge Viper and a Honda CBR 1000RR in a similar race. The Dodge completed 1,000 meter in 22 seconds, the Honda motorbike in 18 seconds while the F-16 only needed 17 seconds.
A small comparison: by the time the F-16 pilot crossed the finish line, the Dodge Viper only completed 597m while the Honda completed 892m. |

Update: The Formula One car just lost out to the power of the F-16 during the race on Friday.
Although the Spyker F8-VII was fastest over the first 300 metres, it was out-accelerated by the plane in the closing metres. At the finish line, the plane beat Christijan Albers by just two car lengths.
"It was a tight race," said Albers. "For the first 300 metres all I could see was the plane in my mirrors, but then he just accelerated past me and off into the distance - it was incredible.
Here are some great pictures by Mike Schoenmaker:
Christiaan Albers is the driver of the Spyker F1 F8-VII who raced agains a Dutch F16AM at Volkel AFB on April 20th, 2007.

Phew.. Some pretty darn impressive numbers... Just goes to prove that these jets really are the ultimate ride...
Not surprised the F1 got the jump on take off.. They put a heap of power to the ground in a hurry... Just remember though that the F-16 has the power of about a dozen of these F1 cars though.. GO F-16!! |

Less rear wing (say Indy 500 profile) and he would of got em. Two car lenghts is nothing. Ferrari, Renault, or even McLaren would have made the stunt interesting ... Spyker normally run 3 seconds slower than the real F-1 cars |

F1.0 versus F1.6 ... what do you expect? The newer versions are always faster.
Here's a video of the event. Note that the reporter sarcastically asks the Dutch F1 pilot if this time he will make it to the finish. |

Nice video … I would like to see the same race with an NRHA top fuel dragster. I think the rail will cross the finish line before the PW –220 even stabilizes in max Aug. |

Quite possibly, the JET drag cars almost always have a higher terminal speed than any shaft driven drag car.. Top fuelers included.. However, they have a hell of a lot less weight than an F-16 and still lag horribly over the first hundred feet or so..
Once again like the F1, the top fuelers advantage comes in the immense power delivered directly to the ground on take off (Approx. 4,500hp)...
The really surprising stat of all this is how well the CBR-1000RR did!! Naturally it beat the car in this race, because it was only straightlining against a road car, but from a contact patch the size of two or three postage stamps, that's bloody quick!! Perhaps the car would have been closer if they'd used an LFE kitted ZR-1 "vette??
The next challenge should be to pit the F-16 against Ghost Rider (and I don't mean that limp-wristed film with Nicholas Cage either) from Sweden on his 500+bhp Turbo Hayabusa... That beast will hit 200mph on the back wheel no probs... |
