Hi,
It's known that in the early 70's the Egyptian AF informally operated at least one Soviet MiG-25, but they wore Egyptian AF markings.
I'm looking forward to see photos of those planes, I've tried but I haven't found any.
Thank you very much in advance. |

Hi DeepSpace, I'd like to to know what are your sources that told you that the MiG-25 was operated by the EAF, here in Egypt, there have been MiG-23s that were operated in the old days, but it was operated for about 3-4years due to the lack of spares, and thank God we didn't operate it for long, its just a bad aircraft, I just don't like it!!
But nevertheless, I will see if there was even one MiG-25 that operated under EAF markings, everybody please give us a hand in this! Thanks |

Ok, I found some.
Quoting http://www.vectorsite.net/avmig251.html
A)
Quote:
Even before operational introduction, four MiG-25Rs were sent to Egypt in 1971 under the cover designation of "X-500". They overflew Israel in pairs about 20 times and were never intercepted, even though Israeli intelligence generally knew when the overflights were coming. The MiG-25Rs went back home in 1972, though reconnaissance Foxbats were sent back to Egypt in October 1973, after the Yom Kippur War, and remained there into 1974.
B)
Quote:
As mentioned, several MiG-25Rs or MiG-25RBs were operated in Egypt with Egyptian markings in the early 1970s. They were never formally on charge with the Egyptian Air Force.
Quoting http://www.historyofmilitary.com/Mig25_ ... 00648.html
Quote:
Of particular interest is its use in the Middle east, operating reconnaissance flights over Israel from bases in Egypt.
And the last one, quoting http://www.warmachines.50g.com/planes/m ... 5_info.htm
Quote:
Four MiG-25Ps were sent to Egypt by the Soviet air force in 1971 to provide reconnaissance support for the Egyptian air force.

These are one of a kind reports man! Nice
Well they didn't stay for long, and since they were not formely in EAF inventory, I guess they were piloted by Russian or Soviet pilots and navigators. |

I've never said they were piloted by Egyptian crews
Yes, actually, they were piloted by Russian pilots, but were painted with EAF markings |
