Is it illegal for a pilot to film video inside an F-16 cockpit? I've been wondering why there are hardly any such videos. The only one I know of is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-0y3-bqNW8 .

Dunno - would think theres enough F-16s proliferated around the world to give the secret away already tbh Smile

the real stuff is under the hood - cant imagine Sukhoi are watching the video and going "wow! that button is over there we don't stand a chance"

The HUD and MFDs in US jets are classified when powered up.

I know for sure you can't take pictures of the radar when it's on

You meant the functional HUD and MFD in radar modes in Falcon 3.0 and 4.0 are all fake? XD

Some game developers use a generic HUD for their planes, especially Janes. I play USNF '97 all the time and the MiG HUDs are the same as the US jets.

Back in Falcon 3.0, WRT the HUD, the funnel-type gunsight was a pain, but we flight-simmers got used to it anyway.
WRT the MFD, personally, I never learnt to target and launch the Harpoon ASM, so I always gave them to the wingies, and sent them to neutralise the Admiral Kuznetsov, despite the ROEs.
Besides, there were ways to blow up and shoot down Ivan's air and ground hardware, without violating the ROEs.
