JASDF F-2B crash on 31 October 2007...

5 March 2008:
Within next few days, Aichi Prefectural Police decided to send documents to Nagoya District Public Prosecutor's Office, about three Mitsubishi Heavy Industries employees, on suspicion of professional negligence resulting in aviation danger acts and injury.

Tuesday, 18 March 2008:
F-2.
JASDF, based at Gifu AB, Gifu Prefecture.
T.F.O.A.
Dropped a part from rudder of tail fin.
Plastic panel. Length, 80 cm. Thick, 1 mm. Weight, 900 g. Width, 55 cm.

11:53, took off.
Flew west of North Alps, and north to sea near Noto Peninsula. Above Gifu, Toyama, and Ishikawa Prefectures.
13: 19, returned to base.

On or about 16 April 2008, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries paid up the 5.65 million Yen to Prefectural Nagoya AP as repair cost of the runway lights and runway surface damaged during the F-2 test flight by MHI.

That's some high cost light bulbs and tarmac.

I was under the impression that the runway remained in service, am I wrong?

From 9:20, single runway (2,740 m) closed. Civilian flights cancelled, delayed, or diverted to Chuubu Kokusai Kuukou (Centrair IAP), Aichi Prefecture.
From 23:49, runway re-opened.

Thursday, 29 November 2007:
Nagoya Prefecture requests 5 million Yen from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, as compensation for Prefectural Nagoya AP repair cost.
On runway, scratches were maximum depth 10 cm, length 200 m. Asphalt replaced at seven places.
10 guidance lights (diameter 20 cm, height 20 cm) mowed and replaced.

J-Air total 28 flights cancelled, four flights diverted to Chuubu Kokusai Kuukou (Centrair IAP).
Landing income for 15 flights that could not land at Prefectural Nagoya AP, each 11,620 Yen, total 174,300 Yen.
Compensation amount excludes this landing income.

1 April 2008:
F-2 flight squad newly established under 8th Hikoutai, 3rd Koukuudan, JASDF, at Misawa AB, Aomori Prefecture. Assigned two F-2.
All about 20 F-4 of same Hikoutai will retire by end of 2008. Replaced by about 10 F-2 in each of 2008 and 2009, for total about 20 F-2.

By 2001 March, under 3rd Koukuudan, 3rd Hikoutai was first F-2 squadron, and replaced F-1.
After training, assigned intercept missions, from 2004 March.

After next two years, same air base will be the only JASDF Koukuudan with two F-2 Hikoutai.

Wednesday, 7 May 2008:
F-2.
6th Hikoutai, based at Tsuiki AB, Fukuoka Prefecture.
Demonstrates regular "hit barrier training" to reporters. Emergency landing by arrester cable and tail hook.

In case of brake malfunction, and aircraft full of fuel and ordnance just after take off.
Cables at 600 m from each end of runway.

Aircraft lands at 100 km/h. Hook gets cable. Stops after 300 m.
Ground crew check aircraft and runway. Runway re-opens for take off and landing of other aircraft.

Two sessions per day. Up to 17 aircraft.
JASDF: F-2 and F-4 of Misawa AB. F-15 of Chitose AB, Hokkaidou.
USAF: F-16 of Misawa AB.
