Oops got my original post wrong, aircraft sourced from Tyndall I found it funny as Langley categorically denied to me any plans to send any aircraft to Europe.
The official reason why no decision has been finalised until July is that they want to make absolutely sure there will be no software problems like the embaressment which is understandable!
Re: the Typhoon engagements, the Air Vice Marshall David Walker (OC 1 Group, Strike Command) has acknowledged engagements have occured against the F-22.

Do you have a quote of his comments and did he comment on the outcome of those engagements? You may want to hold off on responding as I will soon start a thread regarding Jon Lake's article on the Eurofighter in the latest International Airpower Review, where he contends the Eurofighter not only waxed the Raptor in WVR engagements, but also BVR! Further, I will ask Lt. Col. Shower, aka Dozer, to comment on Lake's assertions, which are based on uncited sources, and which if false are offensive and slanderous, and if true, are alarming. |

I'll dig them out later on today for you (its past 0100 here and I need sleep!), he doesn't go into detail about engagement results but goes on how with further development, they will become more or less equals saying how as tactics in the past have proved, its how you utilise what you've got that gets you over obstacles. (which in my personal opinion is a big hint they did defeat the stealth tech somehow!). One thing of note was that he said there is absolutely no difference in cockpit design or technology between the aircraft which he said was striking being as the F-22 cost 3 times as much.
I suppose really no-one will ever know the real results of the engagements, however what I can gather from the lads at CBY (where I spend alot of my time) is that in WVR, the two were equally matched winning an equal number of engagements. Remembering at that time neither had a HMS, which makes those results interesting; although when you then take into account the TVC of the F-22 but no HOBs and the fact Typhoons were packing HOBs its understandable. In BVR, the Typhoon did score a few victories, however it seems the F-22's were carrying external stores (like fuel tanks) at the time which would of made it stand out on radar. Mainly though as to be expected by anyone, in BVR the Typhoon got its butt kicked by the F-22.
Anyway that discussion is for another thread!!!!!
I want to know if I finally get to photograph a Raptor without having to resort to travelling to the states by air for the Nellis air show with all my camera gear!!!!
It is interesting that there is a full six week gap in the Raptor display schedule around RIAT, infact I believe the six weeks are the same six weeks that the Thunderbirds are in Europe!

I appreciate your interesting and informative comments. Even if the Typhoon did score just a few victories in BVR engagements (if true, of course), that is immensely troubling, given that 1. the Raptor costs 3 times as much and that 2. the Raptor has an AESA and the Typhoon does not. What will happen when the Typhoon gets its own AESA??? Again, this is all providing the rumor mill over there is true. If it is, the USA will have just thrown billions of dollars in the garbage. And the Eurofighter consortium should get its butt to Japan, South Korea, Australia and Israel immediately and let them know they can get as good a fighter for half the price or less. So much for the (allegedly) invincible (and hardly invisible, apparently) Raptor... |

Looks like you missed the part where he said the F-22s were carrying external stores in those engagements. Given the capabilty of the Typhoon's radar they could probably spot a pylon a significant distance away. |

Please let us go back to the original thread of this topic (not related to Eurofighter vs F-22A)!

Here is a video from the Langley Airshow (F-22 on friday)... thank you to whoever uploaded it! =)

Thanks for posting this hot video link, zeroyon04! I like the sequences about at 1:50, 5:30 and 6:30 of this clip (running time 08:56), and also the precise heritage flight.
Meanwhile, also on youtube.com, the same person (username = eubankrs) posted a second very nice clip from the F-22 demo on Saturday (running time 09:44): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zhC5Wcf9O0
Very impressive in this second clip is the quick launch. But at least in my eyes, there were no significant "something specials" (as announced), and - in contrast to Point Mugu - both main weapon bays weren´t opened during any fly-by.
During the next couple of days, I will spend some more time to study past and current F-22 demo flight manoeuvres (Please understand: That´s a learning process to me).
What I saw from Langley, that was not the "awesome stuff", already performed by Russian Su-35s at the ILA Berlin airshow, Farnborough or Le Bourget.
I still await the photo stuff from checksixx. |

Here's a nice consolation prize. The first couple of minutes are particularly impressive...

And here's another...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUdt6ZSW ... mp;search=
And here's another, from a fellow over at Fencecheck. Toward the beginning and end of the video, the Raptor demonstrates yaw control authority I have never seen any other fighter approach. How the pilot does it, I haven't a clue, since the Raptor can only vector its thrust in the pitch axis...

Regarding the Langley airshow, I believe the Raptor couldn't do a more "vertical" routine because of the lousy weather. |

In that clip I did see a couple of backflips, and also that corkscrew thing I have yet to see any other jet fighter do. Pretty awesome stuff if you ask me. |

I’d don’t want to turn this thread back off topic, but could you elaborate on what Lake said in that article in another thread? Personally I find Andy’s comments very plausible and I get the impression that Lake has made comments without any caveats. E.g. Typhoon winning a couple of BVR setups and not mentioning external stores. To be honest I don’t particularly hold Lake in high regard lately (sorry to Andy if he’s a friend of sorts), I kinda group him in with Kopp, both a little too exuberant for his respective subject. |

Well I don't know why anyone would have told you that as the international date line is in the Pacific...who told you that anyways? It wasn't really an embarrassment either, just found something that was overlooked and fixed...not even really a big deal. |

I noticed that too. The only thing I can think of that would allow a 2D TV aircraft to do that is differential throttle control- to yaw right, but right engine at Mil power, left engine at zone 5 AB, and you'll yaw right. If that's how he's doing it, it shows a high level of skill to keep it looking so smooth. I know I'd be afraid of jacking with the throttles when I'm essentially falling straight down with no forward airspeed. |

While not the thread for this at all, Mike has answered that question more than five times over the last year. His answer has always been the same...to his knowledge, no DACT has occured at all between the two types and if it had, he would have probably known about it given his background. |

JJ...Saturday was a low show only. Sunday he flew the full show and he did open the bays. I guess all I'll say was if you saw the whole demo done on Sunday, and don't think its awesome...well I guess I don't know what to say. It's head over heels better than any Russian design. As far as detail photo's, I didn't get any. The static Raptor was really in a bad spot and what I could have gotten you can find on the net anyways. Had a good time at the show though. Hooked up with Max, met his wife and also met the Raptor program manager at LM and we all chatted for a bit....Check |

Yeah, thats what you could see last year when Dozer would go burn off fuel. Its ability to do those maneuvers under complete control is what stands it out from the rest (Flanker, etc...). It accomplishes it not only with its vectored thrust, but also with its flight control surfaces and huge rudders. The Raptor flew the full show on Sunday...Check |

No close-up shots of aircraft markings, checksixx? Would you give us at least the serial numbers of the F-22A, flown by Max during the airshow, and of the static Raptor? Were there any back-up jet for Max at the flightline? And, as an eyewitness, would you further describe Max´s flight maneuvers during his "full show" on Sunday? That would be very helpful. As the first posted video clips showed and idesof wrote, it was really a "lousy weather"... |
