I remember when I was first certified for PRP, my friend saw me coming out of Mental Health after my interview and he thought I was going nuts.....he wouldn't even listen to why I was there....LOL

I still call it a CBPO run, just to confuse the young guys. I also call it the 'mess hall' since we are supposed to be moving back to "Heritage to Horizons."

When I came in (1980) ( type-writer and carbon paper era ) CBPO was a big 2 story building and every section that is probably a weblink today was an office you went to.

Also next door was air division HQ, but SAC got rid of those not long afterward. Never did figure out what that one star slot did.

PRP. I was in shock when I had to have that for one assignment. Laughing

Yeah that idea of naming mental health "life skills" was stupid. People that sit around in HQs and think dumb stuff up like that, the general in a staff meeting should just say: "I need to talk to you after the meeting". And then you never see that person again. Save some money.

If we wanted to say it slowly then it was C B P O, but most of the time we just called it Cee Bo.

Someone mentioned the Services folks getting their riled up about "chow hall", but that will never change I don't think. I'm sure they call us some names too, but I don't care. Wink

I went to the motorpool a few weeks ago and said something about our "Coleman". The motorpool guy said seriously "it's not a Coleman, it's an MB-4". Heck, every aircraft tug I'll ever drive will be a Coleman to me. Laughing

I always liked the chow hall. I've never said anything about them and they do serve good food. Nothing better then midnight chow.......best in the world, I would never say bad things about the folks who feed you.....LOL


On the other hand it is a Coleman...(MB-4)....


During the cold war we had contests on who could stuff jets the fastest.......using only the rear wheels....then it became rear wheels with no hands.....(we would use our knee to steer) This was before you had to turn the Coleman around to face the jet, we did it backing in.

I must say I always thought I was the best, but one other was very good too, Chuck Henry.....he taught us allot.

Ya, I missed the old colemans as well ... especially the gas powered ones. You had the handle for RWS, you could sit on the back. We have had nothing but crap since then. The Heavy Chevys (Eagle Bobtail) jarred the crap out of you, PSI's were always broke, and these Harlands we (tug) drive now suck because your right foot gets tired with no load when you have to drive a long distance.

I remember when the PSIs were new...I used to love them back then. You're right though, they are mostly POS now. We just got rid of our last one about a year ago.

I'd like to think I was one of the better Coleman drivers back in the day too. When I worked Phase for a couple years it seemed like everyone else was afraid to tow so I did most of the towing. We had a hush house on a hill that we had to back up to and one night I backed an F-4 all the way to the MLG wheel ramps...spot on...first try. The hush house guy had to tell me to stop or I would have tried to push it right up on the ramps...heh. I remember I used to laugh at the guys who had trouble backing and had to turn the Coleman around...wussies! Now we always have to turn the Coleman around. Sad The big Northwestern we have isn't too bad, but if you're not on the gas it's a bear to turn the wheels.

CBPO was populated by titless WAFs?
Everybody had their own toolboxes?
Maintenance documentation was on AFTO 349s?
Yellow tags were yellow, green tags were green and red tags were red?
Instrument weenies calibrated torque wrenches?
The F-106 MA-1 mockup played "Jingle Bells" in monotone at Christmastime?
Christmas was called "Christmas" and not "winter holidays"????

OMG those really brought back some memories....BOHICA, haven't heard that since my "flight chief" days. We also had POGAL (probability of getting airborne limited) after the same pilot constantly GAB'd for stuff he found on his walkaround/PRE start. Very Happy

I remember the "702's" (I believe they were called) Admin folks I had working for me when I was a Maint Superintendent, mainly guys doing all the typing (as mentioned earlier - titless WAFS)...I'd hand write a report, then these folks would type in up for me, then computers came on the scene, we did damn near everything ourselves after that.

Now we live with the damn computers, amazing the changes we have all seen.

Here is one way back for me, my first seven day TDY was to Taipei, Taiwan back in 1970. We took off out of Clark Air Base in a C-124 (prop job, where you sit with your backs facing the cockpit area)...I never thought I would have flown in anything propeller driven but a C-130...what a ride that was.

Four months later I got into riding motorcycles, my buddy talked me into buying a Honda 750, we caught a "hop" from Clark to Japan, went to Tokyo where I purchased this brand new Goldwing 750 for $950 (its true) they were selling in the "States" for almost $3,000.00 back then. I drove the bike up to the C-130, the load master disconnected the battery, chained the bike down to the ramp (cargo area). We flew back to the PI, hooked up the battery, I drove the bike off the C-130 right over to Pass and ID, got the "tags" for it and drove the bike until I left the PI (six months later).

Amazing stuff we used to do and get away with!
