| Would seem like an ideal Raptor load, rather than 8 SDBs and 2 Amraams, would be 4 and 4, respectively... |

Not really, if you took off with the intention of hunting down a bunch of stuff on the ground why will you want to carry half as many bombs? 2xAMRAAMs and 2xAIM-9s is more than enough for self-defense for going after a target of opportunity. |

The Raptor is as likely to go after SAMs as it is to engage other aircraft in the first days of any conflict. Therefore, future OCA missions by the F-22 are likely to involve hunting other aircraft as well as SAM sites. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if a sizable number of these missions are flown with loadout I described. |

| Well that would be absolutely amazing if it did idesof...In fact I hope they take a picture of the bay because with the SDB carriage installed you can only fit (1) AMRAAM next to it in both bays. I'd love to see where they plan on putting the rest of the AIM-120's. Unless they hang them on the wing...Check |

| I think idesof meant 4 SDBs and 3 AMRAAMS. |

| Oh so you mean 4 SDB's in one bay with 1 AIM-120 and 3 AIM-120's in the other bay then right? Duhh...now I got it idesof. Yeah, that would seem logical and a good mix too.....Check |

Just all depends how you want to do things. A 4 SDB only loading might have a few uses if the region of attack it is in only needs that combined with having the jet do something else afterward like go deep and do some kind of ISR or what ever. I don't think it is an either/or thing. I think you will see a whole mix of things in a total air plan:
Some all-A2A
Some with 2 ea GBU-32
Some with a configuration of SDB
Some with a future weapon of some sort.
etc. |
