TC is correct..PAV-2 is at Hawthorne, after a nice "refurbishment" and PAV-1 is at WP allegedly awaiting a refurbishment of its own..2 prototypes, and both accounted for.
Since there weren't 3 YF-23's,and given the location of that map,I'm betting it's the full scale RCS bird, which also was/is a light gray such as you see in the photo.
Hope that helps...And idesof,I didn't take your comment as being snide at all..
Ah, well, yes, THAT would be how you figured it out! |

| What is the white plane in the photo above the F-4s? An F-106? |

| Wait a minute. When I started looking around that Google Earth map I found several airplanes sitting in the middle of nowhere. Sort of a cross between an F-15 and a MiG-29. What the heck is this place? |

Just hit the 'map' button, then zoom out a while. The map coordinates are at White Sands missile range, in New Mexico... |

Also, as per the god-awfull "F-22 Raptor" book authored by Jay Miller (truly one of the very worst books on aviation I have ever read),
Not questioning you in any aggressive or otherwise snide manner but, why do you say that? I have that book, the ATF background info and the F-22A photographs are IMO top notch.

he claims that at least one YF-23 was supposed to return to flying status for research or some such thing.
This was widely reported when Northrop was seeking to compete against the FB-22A concept, he wasn't making it up.

Or are both prototypes now gateguards somewhere, or roasting at AMARC, as per the satellite image?
That has already been answered, and I have posted photos of PAV-1 at WPAFB in other threads on this forum. |

The pole model is no surprise being out there,as there are several RCS ranges nearby, but as for the F-4's,I have no clue why they are there, other than just a place to store old hulks? There's a lot of interesting stuff out there in the middle of nowhere |
