I seen it and don’t believe it … the Raptor is a “BAD a$$ MOTHER FUCKER”
OH MY GOD!!!! Aviation Nation @ Nellis … They don’t fly them like that @ Edddy.
Been on the Flightline for close to 30 years, and not easily impressed or shocked by too much in the aviation field.
Raptor’s maneuverability “SHOCKED” me … The jet is the BIZ
And the funny thing is … F-22 does not need to “Break Dance” in the sky … a$$ capping kill capability is well beyond visual tactics. |

Varkvet - CF-18 was a cool demo I guess I might just be a bit jaded from all those years at Miramar
My favorite parts were the BUFF coming in for the "Arc Light" strike during the Vietnam demo, the whole Vietnam demo, the MiG, Sabre, Sea Fury, and Fairy Firefly in the Korea demo, the Zero and B-24 in WWII, and of course, the RAPTOR !
slicktry - Aviation Nation is usually the second weekend in November Hope to see you there !
Personal note - I swear I'm going to find a way to get a press pass next year ! Carrying five different cameras is bad enough, but what's worse is when you've got to carry them ON THE BUS FROM THE SPEEDWAY! Oh yeah, and that line on Saturday night that stretched from the C-5 to the Thunderbirds - what was up with that ??? I finally got on a bus at 1900 !
My griping (and my still hurting feet and ankle) aside, I'd have to say that this was THE BEST airshow I have ever been to - and I've been going for about 31 years now, at least one airshow a year if not more !
Here's a few pics from the show: |

The pic you called a daisy cutter is really a BLU 82B.
http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/dumb/blu-82.htm
A daisy cutter is a pipe extending out from the nose which has a M904 fuse attached. See attached picture. The daisy cutter is used for above ground detonations, such as clearing a VERY large area, for helicopter landings or just to clear the ground of clutter.
This bomb is dropped from a C-130 with the cargo pallet as a launch pad. A parachute deploys righting the bomb for impact.
Any bomb can have a "daisy cutter" or fuse extender attached, and was very common in South East Asia on Mk 82 and Mk 117 bombs.
Nice pictures from the airshow! |

What ever they want to call it.... All I know is what makes it a daisy cutter is the extender tube with the M904 attached to any bomb not just the BLU 82.
Without that it would bury itself into the ground before exploding.
At least that's what we called it when I was loading them. and installing it on the Mk 82's also referred to at the time as daisy cutters because of the extender tube.
"The warhead contains 12,600 pounds (5,700 kg) of low-cost GSX slurry (ammonium nitrate, aluminium powder and polystyrene) and is detonated just above ground level by a 38-inch (965 mm) fuse extender, optimized for destruction at ground level without digging a crater."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BLU-82
Did you call them something else when you were loading?
Sorry guys we are getting off topic here....still loved the airshow pictures! |

| Today I was at Dobbins ARB (where they make Raptors) attending an AFA meeting. You don't get to see Raptors there as much as you might think, but today I watched an F-22 and an F-16 come down the runway at about 300 feet in full burner and then go vertical. The Raptor appeared to be still in primer and I suppose the Viper was its chase. Needless to say, there was no contest in the vertical climb, but it sure was a thrill to see! |

Guys,
Thanks for the (admittedly off topic) education on the BLU-82 I always just knew it as a "Daisy Cutter" but it appears otherwise
Glad y'all like the pics - I assure you that there are more on the way
Loader2088 - Gotta say that the Raptor's something else in the vertical !!! |
