Questions:

RNlAF F-16 block 1 #J-218 from 315 sqn is seen coming into land displaying the 50th Anniversary markings with the Lion logo on the tail and text 'Ome Piet Bedankt!' on the vertical stabilizer.

Dutch F-16 J-218 315 Sqn
Red Tail etc. Has on his ventral the following text:
OME PIET BEDANKT!
What is(was) the meaning of this text and what was the occasion?

Dutch F-16 J-510 315 Sqn.
On the ventral the text:
GHOST and ghostpicture
What is (was) the meaning of this ventral text?

Ome Piet must have been Piet Vley; the Technical Flightchief that resided in the flight operations bunker 500 next to the tower. He would oversee the readiness and maintenance and configuration of aircraft and reported to the squadron commander. In 1988 he was a adjudant, but most probably was promoted to a officer’s rank before retirement. Every morining he would come in for the technical crew briefing and call out the crew asembly for each shelter and individual aircraft.

The pic is most probably taken at the time of his retirement; I had already left the Airforce then

Anyway he was a old school NCO, no messing around with, a short stubby figure , bold with rim of black hair remaining, with grumpy/friendly moods... from us as junior sgt crewchiefs, there was a great deal of respect for him.

He was caring of his technical crews;
I once called a hydrazine alarm on recovery of a 16, as I briefy saw the alarm indicator flip to tripped status, and back. This alarm brought a large scale alarm into action with firecrew, protective wear, and disrupted the line operations for a few hours, causing diversion of returning aircraft to other parts of the base, etc.., but technically what i had seen was not possible with the indicator. I got grilled by just about everybody on the base for that, that made me feel really stupid, but I knew what I had seen.( this still nags me ..) Piet took care of me then as a caring coach and I stil remember him for that.

If you are Dutch and remember the Dik voor Mekaar radioshows from Andre van Duin? The Character Ome Joop, that’s is how he looked and sounded, and that’s why he was called Ome Piet.

Have you seen other ventral fin art from 1980’s I posted on the forum earlier ? Skybird, Johnny W, Miss Stella, Rausmaus.

Would you have pictures of vental fin art from J208 Double Trouble and 209 Bartje ? I made art for them but dont have any pics..

Thanks a lot of your history of "Ome Piet"
Now I understand what the text is on the ventral.
I think in those times( your times at the base) there were a lot of histories also with this kind of beautiful textes on the planes.
There is also a F-16 (Don't know the serial) which had a patch just behind the cockpit of the Twente Maintenance Group) I'm just looking for a pic of this Viper with the mentioned emblem.

I'm also looking foor the pics yu have mentioned in your answer.
If you have other interesting historical signs please tell me about it I'm collecting those historie for a book of the Dutch F-16's
