Around half of the Super Hornet squadrons are completely all F models. Nothing more than a jobs program for RIOs. And yes SH did some successful 2 seat Fast FAC in OIF 2003. But that doesn't justify having whole squadrons of Fs.
It has been proven time and time again that two sets of eyes and two minds making decisions are better than one. If it where such a jobs program for RIOs then why is the Navy giving those worthless RIOs a helmet mounted sight?
The F-35 may or may not get a back seater but it will be because of economics and not due to lack of effectiveness. |

| I am not so sure that we will never see a two seat F-35. Clearly, many F-35 operators would be interested in such a type for training and tactical strike missions. Further, its very likely that the Lightning will be sold in very large number possbily on the scale of the F-4 phantom. Yet, even so I would have to admit it would be a very long time off at this stage........... |

We can always keep some of our newest F-16, F-15 and Rhino two seater's in service for decade to come and just use them solely for training purposes.
Until someone takes a look at the cost of keeping the then old aircraft flying just for "orientation". The F-22 and F-35 are likely going to be around for a LONG time. Eventually we'll have new UPT Grads going straight to the Lightning, as well as the Raptor.
