This thread is only for fun and not to be taken too seriously.
What future munitions not on the current chart would you like to see for JSF?
Mine are:
For the STOVL:
-Marines- Nothing says "I care" for those special occasions like the M77 flamigel. External carry for those times when you have to get mid-evil.
-Gun packs on the wing stations. Even at night it can be fun with the wingman doing a laser spot for extra over watch and safety and the other guy rolling in with lots of guns. Yes you have the center gun pack. But this is more. It would be cheap.... makes a nice showing of force and I would think would be very handy. I don't even care what the calibre is. Leave that to the experts to decide.
-GBU-28 bunker buster. Again also not in the stealth mode but a few on hand for the Marines for unique tactical situations where something has to be busted up bad. Traditionally used as some "strategic" weapon. A few of these on hand for a USMC Amphib unit might come in useful. Better to have it and not need it, etc ... etc...
.... all versions Harpoon and SLAM ER. Again external non stealth carry....
Gotta run.. I'll add some more. |

More for the Marine STOVL- (external carry)
-Don't have my chart--- I think it is stations 3 and 9, that are rated for 5000lbs. Like the GBU-28 idea above... here instead of a weapon that was for penetration... my next suggestion would be a 4500lb weight class GBU bomb. Here the weight is mostly explosive. Add a smart fuse for the air-burst option. Not a common use item but for prepared attacks against ground Marines must take that is fortified. In concert with M-77 and maybe GBU-28, it would be nice to have. And would also have some ability with it's concussion to clear a path through a minefield. I thought about FAE's... ( fuel air explosive ) but they are too dependent on wind/weather and can fizzle.
All versions.... This is probably already assumed over time since SDB I is in the pipeline but the SDB II with the tri sensor on the front will prove very very useful for moving targets.
Non stealth use-
Energy weapons on stations 3 & 9 ( I assume an energy weapon will be heavy? so these would be the stations...? ) For air to ground work. What energy weapon I have no idea.
Any other ideas?? |

This article is fun -- http://www.you.com.au/news/1275.htm -- Internal energy weapons in CV/CTOL variants (replaces gun on CTOL?).
But if that technology in the 747 laser (COIL was it?) continues to shrink - perhaps pylon-mounted ones may work as well. 2025 or so.
