Jeff MacNelly (1948-2000), who originally wrote "Shoe" always kept the military pretty close to the strip, and always in a good light. Anyone else remember poor little Skyler going off to summer camp each year? One summer going off to Paris on a bus (Parris Island - as the OD Marine Corps bus pulls up out front "Get on the bus, you maggot!") and the next off to "Cheery Point" (MCAS Cherry Point) to learn to fly - Harriers.
