A problem has occured in Turkey. The pilot said he opened canopy handle (yellow one) while engine running. Then canopy warning light came on but warninng didn t come to hud. We tried it many times and on many aircrafts but we see it changes. Warning on hud can come on some aircrafts but some of them it doesn't come on hud and it's not written any tm. Can anybody help us for this problem?

Thank you for reading this one..

Your best bet would be to contact the Lockheed engineers if you cannot find the solution in any T.O.

Is this really a problem? Why did he open the canopy with the engine running with the hud on any way? That probably the problem. If your flying you would not open the canopy...and you would know instantly if there was a problem...my best guess is the hud warning light comes from some switch in the canopy probably a pressure switch... So if the unlocked light comes on before the canopy is opened just enough than a warning would be present on the hud to warn the pilot of impending canopy failure, that is if the pilot did not notice the pressurization flux first! Thats my best guess and I cant wait until you let us know! Don't quote me I'm just a engine guy who was run qual...good luck call LM!

Or the switch sets off the warning to let the pilot know that he just lost his canopy! You know just in case the pilot did not notice!

Assuming its happening on the same block numbers, my thoughts are to first check the canopy rigging for wear and then check the software loads of the HUD and display / mission computers.

We had a nasty problem like this on the AV8B some years ago, in our case the handles would appear to be latched and the lights would go out but wear in the system and miss-rigging of the canopy meant that the only positive indication was the light which was for some crazy reason inhibited with WOW on some software loads.

Go to your 94FI and troubleshoot under "HUD Indication, NOT OK, missing or erratic symbology" and troubleshoot accordingly. Better yet, call your Lockheed tech rep, you have one of the best in the business there in Turkey.

One other thought is to check out your caution and warning system. The way it is supposed to work, eyebrow light comes on, followed shortly by MASTER CAUTION, followed a few seconds later by WARN in the HUD. Something is missing in there. Do a very thorough BY THE BOOK warning and caution light check.

Best Regards,

Never heard of that one Joe in the 33-10 but E/E would fix it if Avionics punts it off on us just like their WOW problems.

The Master Caution light is what causes the WARN on the HUD. HUD is in the 94FI. I am looking at this as an indication problem.

Hmmm, may I know which block of aircraft does this problem appear? Maybe you could ask Lockheed about this issue.
