has either worked or flown in the F4 Phantom, just wondering how many "older" folks we have out here in Viperland that have been involved with this amazing aircraft.
I did at ....
Clark Air Base - 1969 to 1971 - 1st Test Squadron, 405th FW
Danang Air Base, Vietnam - 1971 to 1972 - 366th Fighter Wing (Deployed from the P.I.)
RAF Lakenheath, U.K. - 1972 to 1975 - 492nd FS
Edwards AFB, California - 1975 to 1976 - Inflight Tow Target Operator (F4 Flying status)
RAF Bentwaters, U.K. - 1977 to 1978 - 78th FS
Nellis AFB, Las Vegas, Nevada - 1980 - 429th FS - this was the last time I was around this amazing hard working aircraft..
Take care all and thanks for the "Phantom Rollcall" |

| I was a Jet Mech on the F-4C from 1985 until 1990 in the Kansas Air National Guard. I really enjoyed working on the old F-4, but I especially loved to watch her fly. |

Makes you appreciate the 16 sometimes, but then there are times when everything works as advertised and I get bored doing "busy work". With the Phantom there was ALWAYS something to do. |

| Now that is a very true statement...always something to do, no going home early working weekends or swings on that bird, least not for me |

During alarm black we were launching a F-4E and I thought my assistant gave me the air sign, turns out he still had the hose in his hand and it snapped back and hit him right in the face. It would have killed him accept for the gas mask. I thought he was going to kill me later. Turns out he was just a little sore with no real injuries. I think the only reason he didn't kick my butt was I still was writing his APR.

Great plane... the first Joint Strike Fighter
Talked to an ex F-111 maintainer here not to long ago ( he is now in the U2 program )...
I always thought the food chain on most workload to keep the jet up was as follows...
F-111
then
F-4
He told me it wasn't so. While there could be some seriously bitchy things on the F-111. Given a days work, you would probably put in a little more work on an F-4 as a maintainer.
I have the highest respect for F-4 maintainers. If you can work on that aircraft it seems to be a great solid foundation that served you well later in your career on other airframes.
Great aircraft. |

| I worked WCS on Es and G's in Germany in the 80s. Absolutely loved the job. You had to actually troubleshoot the problems, no MFLs to look up. Working (loose term) on Block 60s for the UAE now, flip a switch and let the computer figure it out! At least I get to read F-16.net a lot now!!!! |
