It's Thanksgiving here in the U.S. and I've been thinking about how much I have to be thankful for. I have a job that while stressful at times and has long hours, pays fairly well and consists of working at a computer. I have a roof over my head, a roommate I can trust, and my family is only about a four hour drive away. My car is paid off and my biggest worry at the moment is whether or not my direct deposit will show up on time so I can go Christmas shopping before heading to work on Friday.
I'm also thankful for all the great men and women in the U.S. and Allied armed forces who can't be with family for the Holidays. While I'm at Wal Mart, soldiers, sailers, airmen and marines will all be working and fighting to keep me and my family safe here at home.
I just got this wonderful Thanksgiving link from one of my friends who's also a Veteran and I thought that everyone here would probably like to see it and pass it on.

Once again, THANK YOU to everyone who's serving and helping to keep us free and safe!
PS - That goes for all the civilian contractors and charities out there supporting the military as well . |

I'm off today, had a fantastic meal, my family is here and everybody is well, love my job and we have a great life. What I'm most thankful for this year are the folks in various places in SE Asia and other remote locations, eating DFAC turkey and crappy dressing either before or after launching jets, loading ordnance, performing maintenance, jocking up and going out on patrol and the myriad of other tasks heroic and mundane that keeps me and my family safe. I had the distinct pleasure of sharing my 2004 Thanksgiving meal at a table full of the troops from the 2/227 Avn. Btn. from Ft Hood at Balad's infamous DFAC 4. Being surrounded by those people and sharing in their Thanksgiving prayer was the most awesome experience in my life.
I do not owe my freedom and security to politicians, media pundits, pro athletes or actors. I owe it to the people in the military, past and present.
God bless you folks, and happy Thanksgiving! |

To parrothead, AfterburnerDecalsScott and all other of our U.S. users: I hope you had a very nice Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, this year there“s no relevant turkey picture from Balad AB on the web. Because of that, I will post at least a "culinary frontline pic" from the deployed 380th AEW, Al Dhafra AB, UAE, mainly tasked with KC-10A Extender air refueling of "our" OIF Vipers and other coalition aircraft over Iraq and somewhere.
A contract food services worker bastes a 65-pound steamship round roast two days before Thanksgiving. Several of the roasts were prepared, along with about 1,700 pounds of turkey, for the 380th Air Expeditionary Wing's Thanksgiving meal. (USAF photo by Master Sgt. Jason Tudor)
As an European from Germany, naturally I have no personal relations to Thanksgiving. But I will tell you: I stay behind you in the Global War of Terrorism! Today - and especially related to OEF in Southern Afghanistan - a German newspaper titled: "German soldiers must learn to kill" (related to Taliban and Al Qaida fighters who are still uprising in this country). Please understand: A lot of Germans, lead by the political opposition, are against any further combat engagements of the German Bundeswehr in this "conflict". Please note: Germany has a very bad history: WW II occupations and the Holocaust (both directed by "The Leader" Adolf Hitler). But at least in my eyes, for German soldiers today that should be no obstacle for current and future military operations against terrorists.
Just yesterday, AP reported:
BAGHDAD, Iraq - Sunni Muslim insurgents blew up five car bombs and fired mortars into Baghdad's largest Shiite district Thursday, killing at least 161 people and wounding 257 in a dramatic attack that sent the U.S. ambassador racing to meet with Iraqi leaders in an effort to contain the growing sectarian war.
Sorry, that should not stimulate any "Off Topic" political discussion! I only would tell you my personal viewpoint. And I also will tell you: We must fight and win the war against Al Qaida, Taliban and any other fanatical Islamist terrorists (who acts - in their "Holy War" - like "Kamikazes" or "Tokubetsus" during the final months of WW II in the Pacific Theatre).
God save all our deployed allied soldiers who risk their lives for our freedom! |

Thank you to all out there. Your freedoms and those my family and friends back home are why I've been doing what I do. I know that all of us who wear the uniform, whichever country it may be for, appreciate the support.
Thank you again, and I hope that everyone out there had a great Thanksgiving! |
