If I understood correctly EPAF F-16As required structural overhaul at 3500 hours but after MLU work on them had been done they will be able to reach 5000 hours which is short of 8000 hours advertised life of the airframe.
Is that true and is that solved on new F-16Cs like Block 50/52? Are there any guaranties now that they will reach 8000 hours without the need for major structural overhaul?
I have read that some Block 40 airframes reached some 5000 hours on them and that they are OK, so I hope Block 50s will perform the same?

The advertised 8000 hrs is for the newer C/D airframes, not the early A/Bs (which MLUs still are, despite the strenghtened structure)

6000 actually. See the F-16.net news article "<a href="news_article1900.html">Another two F-16s block 40 reach 6,000hrs milestone</a>". |

I don't know the exact figures, but I do know that certain MLU airframes already have accumulated over 5,000 hours and are still doing fine. I'm certain that the airframes have a life time of 6,000 hours. I'm not sure of the 8,000 hours although those 5,000 hour airframes didn't receive the Falcons Star upgrade which ads those strengthening plates all over the airframe. So the 8,000 hour cycle could be true as well.
Someone can shed a light on this?

This A/C reached 5000 hours last year before it came to Kjeller and M3 Falcon Star. I am sure we will be fixing these machines for at least 3000 hours more. |
