What do ya'all think is the hardest part about working on the F-16? Being a Crew Chief I personally think its the ADG (R2) because of how much you have to take out just to get to it. Not to mention all the parts that have to be replaced (packings and all), inspections, servicing, ops check and so forth as well as the weight (I'm built like a toothpick so others need to handle the ADG if we don't have the adapter). What do specs and weaps think is the hardest part about working on the mighty F-16? Course its probably not even close to being anything near as hard as something a Crew Chief has to do.

I think the hardest part was watching it take off everyday without me
Oh,well
On the technical side, Stab ISA's suck especially the cannon plugs, not to mention the stab itself. Also while not extremely technical the safety wire on the four speed brake attach bolts was the biggest safety wire pain in the a** I remember.

My airframe is 90-0707. She's at depot right now but she'll be back soon after getting CCIP'ed. Oh also lets not forget about CANNING flap ISA's so we can make our stats (or report cards as some of the higher ups who don't even touch the planes call em).

Realizing I will eventually have to stop working on it and hang up the uniform.....

You called it. I do miss working on the planes. Luckily, I have been fortunate to land a job with Boeing and it keeps me on the acft and with the USAF maintainers.
When I was working on them at the depot, I found the landing gear hydraulic lines in the wheel well a real pain in the a$$ to R2 but also, taking apart the radar package and wiring (metal attach frames too) can make a guy cry, I could not twist my body inside that cavity as I used too....good thing I don't have to do that anymore, it hurt like hell too.

I would guess ADG as well. Never had to change one out, but saw a crew working on one and it looked like the job from hell.
Yea, it can be a pain big time, did a few myself too...never could find the proper maintenance stand that would make that task easier, but we worked it out...painfully so

I would have to say changing out a MEC when the motor is still in tends to suck. Also had to change out the (W-6 or 8 cable) cant remember but on the GE110. That is ok when the motor is out but out on the ramp at night trying to route it through gives you a major headache and you tend to use every cuss word there is and make a few up as you go. Lurch you probably remember when we did that on 242 at TJ.
I think the hardest thing on the 16 is when something doesn't want to come out or go in for that matter. A PDU is a bastard and I think that would rank right up there with the ADG. Whoever said CANNing parts just to make sorties is right......a big freakin nightmare.

I do remember that. I think we all agreed that if we had to do that again, we would roll the engine back on the install trailer and then R&R it.
