At an airshow in Romania back in 1996. Our Floggers were withdrawn from use in 2001. |

Anyone ever stood in front of a Tweet? Different kind of loud than a full burner but very loud nonetheless.
They had a small detachment of T-37s at Barksdale when I lived there. They were parked right next to the dumpster I used to sit on the watch the flightline. The only time I ever hurt my ears was when 2 tweets started up together.
But to the subject at hand, I once witnessed an ORI scramble of B-1's at Dyess. 12 B-1's fully loaded tearing tail off the ground as fast as they could. That's a sound I'll never forget. |

| I would have to say a 2 ship of British Tornado's taking off at Milldenhall in 1996 was the loudest. We were lined up at the hold shot line with the windows open when they took off, and here 10 years later I still remember the rumble. |

| Of course there are two types of loud, my brother lived at the foot of an international airport in the Philippines for a time, and he mentioned that the turbojet powered planes were louder in straight volume, but the turbofans had this deep rumble that shook his house and could be felt. |

| What about the SR-71? That was a combination of '' loud n' smokey''. Most people forgot, but the C-141 could create some noise, Rumble and straight noise. |

The Tweety Bird: Standing in front of that thing with no Mickey Mouse ears will make you cry!
The Century Series: Especially the 101, the Thud, and the 106. I always loved to hear that tell-tale BOOM! from the burner lighting on the Six.
The BONE: Put 4 Blk. 50 Vipers on the runway and have them all go into burner. Pretty darn close, but there's something about the B-1 that is amazingly loud. It's by far the loudest bomber I've ever heard, even with hearing water injection BUFFs taking off. Pops always tells me that it still pales in comparison to the B-58 lighting the pipes.
The Mudhen: Louder than the C model.
The Raptor: Louder than the Eagle.
The 'Vark: In burner it was pretty damned loud.
The Tomcat: Anyone who ever watched the Demo, or a live cat shot can vouch for me.
The Rhino: If one ever flew over you at high speed, you will remember that howl. Living and working near Tyndall, I can hear the Rhino, Eagle, and Raptor sometimes all flying at the same time. Each have very distinctive sounds. |

| Whoa, the Raptor is no where near as loud as the Mudhen. I've seen the F-22 at full burner, and I say the -15E is way louder. Now the Harrier is one loud screamer! i was at the MCAS Miramar airshow on Friday. A AV-8B was on hover in front of the crowd and that killed me. my left ear is soo sensitive now. Now Navy loud would be the EA-6B..... |

| For fighter, the loudest and most distinctive I've heard is the F-22. During ground tests, the F-35 is pretty loud too. Strangely, I think the little F-16 is quite loud of it's size! |

I'm going to have to go with the B-ONE on this one too.
Having just PCS'd away from Ellsworth...... yeah..... really loud.
Doing the night duty maintenance officer thing several times, I got to stand at the end of the runway, or pick various places along the taxiways (so long as they were clear) during takeoff, and not even my tripple flange ear plugs were enough.
The analogy of a 4 ship of Vipers is just about right since the engines are the basically the same at the core. Though I think that the B-1 engines are a touch louder because of a few things such as the inlet design and the exhaust cone size and design.
I think that the loudest JET out there would be the TU-160 Blackjack at full blower for takeoff. Just imagine something with engines bigger than the TU-22M and with 4 of them!
But for the loudest flyer out there? Try to top the Space Shuttle! |

| I would say a B-1B in full burner taking off and a C-5, due to those high pitched angels screaming! Just watching one U-turn on the runway is bad. But our shop 150 yards (if that) away from the runway. |

As for intake noise, the smallmouth Viper, F-14 and F-15C are paiiiiiiiiinful. Another couple screamers are the Fouga Magistere and Casajet. I think I felt my eardrums shatter standing near those jets. Never again did I leave my plugs in the bottom of my camera bag.
AB noise? Don't know if its due to the lower thrust level but the F-15E seemed much louder than the F-4 in a high speed pass. The B-1B of course will rearrange internal organs without hesitation and the F-22 is probably a close second. Especially with it hanging motionless in front of you, there is plenty of time to wonder "Hey, if my filings rattle loose, does that count as FOD?"

| Yeah That B-1 was very loud, when i was at MCAS Miramar, a lady was sleeping under the wing of a C-17, when Two, not one but TWO B-1'S came in at high speeds, i seen that mean look of it coming in wings swept back, and smoke coming out the engines, i tried to warn her, she did not listen to what i said, now after that, im sure she caint listen ( hear) at all, i bet a million bucks she wont ever fall asleep at a airshow again.... |

B-58s were very loud, they use to fly over cities at high altitudes, and it still was loud down below. Not many complaints back then though. Also, the SR-71 was so loud, that people were complaining about it breaking windows in their area when there wasn't even one flying for miles around that day. |
